The Warriors broke ground yesterday on their new privately financed $1B dollar arena. This is the 1st truly private facility. They say places like the MLB Giants park is private but they were given land/small breaks. The Warriors bought their own land. The California Supreme court the day before rejected the last challenge to the arena(they wouldn't hear the case). Oracle Arena their current arena opened in 1966 and was the oldest arena in the NBA. With the Detroit Pistons soon finalizing a move to the Red Wings arena Madison Square Garden(1968) will be the last pre-90's arena left in the NBA and that was just given a billion dollar renovation. The NBA is going to be the 1st sports league since the new wave of facilities started in the 4 major sports to have all teams satisfied with their current building.
At the groundbreaking the mayor, owners, coach(he took a shot at Dean Spanos LOL), Kevin Durant spoke. It was the typical groundbreaking for a sports facility. Then things got VERY weird.......

Nice to see a facility built with no public funds. In some situations it is not feasible but this is a good example showing it can be done.

Nice to see a facility built with no public funds. In some situations it is not feasible but this is a good example showing it can be done. In MOST situations in all 4 major sports it's not feasible and a money loser. It's only feasible in HUGE markets with a ton of corporations/population and a ton of fan support(New York, LA, Bay Area, Chicago, Toronto etc...) I don't mind public help as long as it don't get out of hand and the team has to pay half(ish). But your right, when you are in an elite market you absolutely shouldn't get pubic help.
