Boycott white business day? Where did you hear that? m. Manitoba's Southern Chiefs Organization wants First Nations to boycott non-native businesses on Friday's national day of action - but an Ontario aboriginal leader says the boycott doesn't make sense. The boycott would be one way to demonstrate the economic power of the native community, said Nahanni Fontaine, director of justice with SCO. Aboriginal people as a group spend huge amounts of money, she added, but little of it stays in aboriginal communities.
"The idea is that we're sustaining our own poverty. We need to in some ... tangible way, even if it's just for one day at this point, to stop buying products and services from non-aboriginal businesses." The decision to call a boycott follows the recent SCO election of a new grand chief, Morris Shannacappo, and is the beginning of a long-term strategy of economic action, Fontaine said. "I don't want people to think that it's personal, that it's an attack on individual business owners," she said. "It absolutely isn't. But it's about time that we need to support our own.caledoniawakeupcall.wordpress.com/2007/06/28/boycott-non-native-businesses-friday-manitoba-chiefs-urge/Nahnanni Fontaine had this to say about Aboriginal Woman going to Hospitals in Winnipeg to deliver babies: "And so, as the minister knows, you know, indigenous women have to come to the south to have their babies. Often, they come without any supports. They are immersed in white space." For people unfamiliar with the latest racial nomenclature, she explained:
"And so, you know, for women that are here alone, and that are immersed in white space, with white nurses, white doctors, it can be incredibly alienating and impact on the delivery of their baby."Nahanni Fontaine also compared the recently built Youth For Christ recreation centre on Main and Higgins with Aboriginals being sent to Residential Schools: www.torontosun.com/news/columnists/kevin_engstrom/2010/02/28/13061351.htmlFontaine, the longtime spokeswoman on justice issues for the Southern Chiefs Organization, was preaching to city council last Wednesday, comparing Youth for Christ's proposed youth centre in the city's skid row to that of residential schools. No, really - she actually said that.
"Approving this proposal would just be sanctifying another more contemporary form of the residential school experience," said Fontaine, imploring council to reject investing $2.7 million into the $11-million-plus centre.
Council ultimately rejected her preposterous claim, siding with the many influential peeps from all sorts of ethnic and political backgrounds who think creating a safe haven for local youth away from gangs and other troublesome things is a good idea.----- It's obvious Fontaine is mentally ill. How did she even get elected to the Manitoba Legislature is beyond me.

^ to be fair if you wanted to conduct a list of all of the stupid things politicians in political parties come up with you would need a thread for each party. Stupidity and being out of touch with the people is not specific to any one party.

Nahanni is in the news again: Bathroom camera creeper targets Manitoba MLA Nahanni Fontaine at The Forks"A Manitoba politician says someone tried to film her in a washroom at one of Winnipeg's most popular public gathering places. Nahanni Fontaine posted a warning on her Facebook page Tuesday morning, moments after the incident at The Forks historic site. The NDP MLA for the Winnipeg riding of St. Johns said she was on the toilet in the one-person washroom at the Johnston Terminal building when it happened. "I'm just sitting there and I notice some shadow and I'm thinking there's somebody waiting to use the bathroom. And then all of a sudden, a white Apple camera, square camera, slides under the door," Fontaine told CBC News. "It took me a couple of seconds [to realize what was happening] and then all of a sudden I just screamed because I was instantaneously furious. I screamed profanities and as I did that the camera slipped back out." more: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/bathroom-camera-forks-nahanni-fontaine-winnipeg-1.4158503---- I call BS on this. Mrs.Fontaine has a history of making a career out of being a victim. There was at least one occasion where her accusations against an Independent Media reporter were proven false.
