Every time I look at the standings I can't get over the way this year is unfolding.I don't remember a year with this many surprises. These are my wows. The Blues I expected them to be sliding down the standings, not battling us for 1st Colorado, way more relevant than I expected Vegas,No way I saw them making the playoffs Coyotes, while I didn't buy into the thought that they were a playoff team,They were toast after 15,that is BAD Oilers,The playoffs are tough now, only 7 points out but 6 teams to climb over. They are running out of time Nucks again more relevant than I thought Jersey, where did this come from? Sabres I thought they would be in the hunt Wings, again way more relevant than I thought Thats alot of misses

We get to see the test of 2nd on your list tonight!
I agree, there are a lot of surprising storylines so far this season. Stanley Cup Champ Penguins are barely hanging onto a wild card position, another suprise I think. Maybe still hard to tell if there's a shift in the balance of power in the league or if things will drift back to what we expect by, say, All Star break. I'm hoping the former is true!

The Vegas situation is a joke, I understand they wanted to market a competitive team to take root, however this has made a mockery of the building process by all the other teams....
What do you have to give up to Seattle for their 650 million?

What do you have to give up to Seattle for their 650 million? Do you believe that the other teams knew that the expansion rules would give Vegas a team that's succeeding as it has? The rest of the league, like all of us fans, figured that Vegas would be a bubble team at best. Who knew? m.

^ itll be interesting to see if they come back down to reality next season. They have a few ufas and lets face it, dont have many star players, just guys having career years. Interesting to see how they do off the ice with a subpar team once the honeymoon phase is over and they get the raiders.

What do you have to give up to Seattle for their 650 million? The Seattle owners said the NHL is giving them the same rules as Vegas.

Interesting to see how they do off the ice with a subpar team once the honeymoon phase is over and they get the raiders. I'd love to see them fall flat on their face since the NHL picked them at the expense of Quebec but they will do alright in the long term I bet though maybe they won't always sell out and you probably will have a lot more visiting fans if they lose/the novelty wears off. Every visiting fans will want to see their team there, there is a waiting list, the arena is on the strip, they have a nice capacity(17,500) Vegas is growing at a good clip and you have casinos to buy tickets. There's no way they will fall from the level they are at now to Coyote/Panther level. Those teams sucked right off the bat and never done nothing like Vegas is doing attendance/interest wise. Me wanting them to fail was/is EMOTION because I was/still am VERY bitter about Quebec. The only way I could see an outright fail is if the NBA came and according to former NBA commissioner David Stern he didn't thing the NBA would come given there about to be 2 teams and that is the right amount of teams Vegas could handle.

^ thing is seattle needs an nba expansion partner and the nba would probably blow the nhl out of the water in vegas. I can see them trying to out muscle the nhl That's not their style. The muscle out/going to over-saturated markets is a hockey culture thing(Phoenix etc...) like the suburban arena thing. The NBA likes all big cities/small markets with not much/no competition. I don't think they trust their players could handle Vegas. See the Vegas all star game a few years back. It was a debacle. That soured a lot of Vegas folks on the NBA. www.espn.com/nba/news/story?id=2859699lasvegassun.com/news/2007/feb/25/nba-weekend-when-cultures-clashed/Seattle doesn't "need" an expansions partner. The NBA went with 27 team for quite a few years. Only MLB needs an even amount of teams since they play almost every day. I think the NBA really wants Mexico City if they go with 32. It would give a MASSIVE jolt to the NBA from American Hispanic fans, they'd get a Latin America TV deal. I think they view Mexico City as the 1st step to becoming a truly global sport. They won't say it but their one worry is a kidnapping of a major star/security. That's why the G-League experiment 1st. Some day when there is faster air travel there absolutely will be Chinese and European teams/divisions. There is also the possibility they relocate one of Memphis/New Orleans to Seattle instead. Memphis has fighting owners, the smallest market/a violent market that don't grow. New Orleans's owner just died and left the team to his wife. She say's she won't sell but we will see.
