There was a time when the Jets were a team that other teams would think twice about running our star players. They're all sitting ducks. The fact that once again a top liner and captain has to be the one to challenge the goon...Jets are so devoid of grit. Lady Byng should be a team award so we could at least win something.
When stuff like this persists with no league discipline, I don't know how it can be argued that the age of the enforcer has passed us by. I'd be more than happy to see Peluso get a 2 minute instigator, 5 minutes fighting and 10 minute misconduct to go a round with Tkachuk or Bennett.

Lowry said he ate with Scheif after the game. The injury still looks and sounds bad but I still take this as somewhat positive news, because would a guy with a ruptured achilles be eating with a teammate after the game and be waiting for specialist to look at him the next day, or would he be in hospital being prepped for surgery?
Knee or ankle injury maybe, but that didn't look like the area he was holding when he was rolling around on the ice.

Finally had a chance to watch the game this PM. The Jets were a completely different team after the Sheifele injury, and this is gonna be a very short series if there is not a dramatic change in the team energy and attitude. If it all depends on one player, you don't have much of a team. The power plays and penalty killing showed the worst deterioration. Oh well, at least the Jet games won't interfere with the rest of the summer.

Any word on the extent of Mark's injury yet Will we know before Cup finals done? I thought they are prohibited from talking about health/injury issues?

Any word on the extent of Mark's injury yet We will get a statement that "it's a lower body injury and he's day to day"

Yeah, of course the injury is all still speculation now, but from my understanding an achilles rupture would require surgery. Partial tear I'm sure you're right could maybe get by with long term immobilization only, if it's not too bad. I'm just saying, I would have thought if it is achilles involved then it looked like a reaction to a complete rupture. It's possible that the skate may have caught the calf muscle, which would no doubt hurt like the dickens too but perhaps not so long term.

So I've had buddies with complete tears do the immobilization thing versus surgery. Apparently less risk of complications related to surgery: wound infection, blood clots and pulmonary embolus. Here is what Alberta Health website says: myhealth.alberta.ca/health/pages/conditions.aspx?Hwid=ug2998Now my buddies weren't upper echelon athletes like Mark Scheifele

I've never heard of a complete rupture healing by immobilization alone, learn something new every day! I guess any surgery has those other risks and players go under the knife quite routinely so I'm not sure how much they factor those things vs perhaps better odds of a more reliable fix.
Anyway, listening to Maurice today talking about what Tkachuk did with his skate, PoMo said it was dirty of course, and he said he could have damaged his achilles and ruined his career...which the way he said it sounded like he actually didn't cut it. But I guess he could have also been choosing his words to not let out the nature of the injury as per the NHL rules. At least we won't need to wait long to have some idea how serious these injuries are with next game being only 15 hours away.

Looks like it's not a ruptured achilles. Yeah! Not available next game but maybe the one after. Report: Scheifele likely avoided major Achilles damage www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1995327

Here it is in slow motion. My opinion is that it was intentional. Tkachuk's skate was lifted off ice towards Scheifele's leg to make contact with the leg lodged against the boards. Player's don't normally stop by placing their skate on the boards to stop. Secondly, Scheifele doesn't have possession of puck and technically a hit on him is Boarding or interference. These Refs didn't call a penalty and illegally allowed a player's momentum to carry on and hit player without the puck along the boards. This is against the rules. "Boarding in ice hockey is a penalty called when an offending player pushes, trips or checks an opposing player violently into the boards (walls) of the hockey rink." Boarding on icing has been eliminated but not in this case. Bush league. Here is the incident in slow motion showing both player's legs. s9e.github.io/iframe/2/facebook.min.html#v2768096513421462

And of course it's that dirtbag Tkachuk.

This is the Zapruder tape of hockey. He's accomplished what he set out to do, eliminate our best player. Whether in this series or the next he will suffer the "code". I can't imagine the Oilers would take longer than a minute to engage him to get him off the ice. Live by the sword, die by the sword. This is far worse in intent than Ducky's injury. At least the D Man for Calgary was trying to stop a rush and did what everyone did those days...lay the lumber on offensive player. It was in open ice and Hawerchuk exposed himself by jumping off the ice to avoid Macoun's crosscheck. It didn't work. Here is a neat side by side view of both injuries:
