Maurice learned this the hard way. Western finals. Jets fairly easily take the first game against LVK. Jets allowed to play their offence were difficult to play against. Nashville found that out. Gallant's adaption was to employ the trap the next four games: i.e. a strong defensive structure. Maurice never adapted. 4 straight ensued. And yet he knew to employ a stronger defensive structure against the Oilers:4 straight. That was not employed against Montreal unfortunately. So it appears Maurice has adapted and has the willing ears of his players to employ a sound defensive structure given the circumstances. I am pretty sure that Maurice and his coaching staff were aware of the trap system and tried to counter it, but there is no point in talking if you will not be heard. And there is the problem in a nutshell. Obviously he knew the trap system as it has been a reality since the Devils cup runs years ago. So the traditional method is to try to focus on supporting the puck carrier and opening up passing lanes. The other is to fight fire with fire. Maurice chose the former as he believed in the offensive 'prowess' of the Jets as they had the second highest GF in the entire league. They had outdueled Nashville which team had the highest point % in the entire NHL. To fight fire with fire would have required Maurice to abate the need to attack the nzt and simply wait in his own nzt for turnovers. That didn't happen. He was outcoached by Gallant plain and simple.

Hard to tell if Maurice was outcoached or if the core players decided to take the game back into their hands and play the way they felt like- much as what happened after the honeymoon period with Bowness.

Panthers looked sluggish for most of two periods. But the fact of the matter they were waiting for 10 days for this game. Should expect a better outcome next game. Vegas is the real deal though I think they got a huge benefit in the Oilers series by having favorable reffing.

Not sure if the Knights can play better, but the Panthers have shown that they can. The Knight got a couple of gift goals, which is unlikely to happen again.

Wow. Bobrovsky is being outperformed by Hill and Panthers are looking like the team that barely made the playoffs and not the one which beat the juggernaut Bruins.

It is like 2018 when the Vegas goalie (damn his name escapes me) was red hot but then went cold in the finals. He stoned us then was useless in the finals - such as it is with goalies. Florida has gotten to this point riding Bib but he has gone cold.

Hoping the WHL boys along with Kelly Mccrimmond hand Maurice his hat after 4. Also have a new respect for Mark Stone., Marchessault.
