Well, said I would be happy with an exciting game, but it appears Ehlers went off injured. Great.
Moose open up their season on Friday...will keep you update on the prospects on the farm.
Night all.

We had the 2nd best goalie tonight. For the most part, the team played well.

A really good game but a really stupid play by Shmidt OMG. Goat of the game. Standing in your own zone with nobody near you and you ice it. Then botch it up again.

He waves off the trainer so maybe that's a good sign

Brain cramps and goaltending aside, I think Jets definitely had a different vibe tonight...looked legitimately competitive...actually quite good.

This team will find it hard to win games! Not much real talent seem mostly mechanical in there attempts to score and how many tines are we gonna have the second best goalie!!

You know inside the arena without the benefit of multiple replays, it was hard to be too critical of 37. He faced screened shots, tipped shots and a fantastic no look behind the net pass to the opposite side, that no goaltender is going to stop. After that 44 came around to tap Helle on the pads as if to say "nothing you could have done about that" consolation. The PP looked less robotic than years past when they always looked for the one timer in the slot. There were none of the forced passes through 2 or 3 defenders to set it up. I think this team will work harder and more efficiently than the last 2 years. I look forward to this level or better hockey. To me one huge difference was that Helle played the puck very well and confidently. There was none of the bad passes, poor anticipation and confusion. At least for this game.

What did we learn about the Vegas cup win? You don't need an 8.x million dollar goaltender especially if you have other horses and a system which everyone buys into. The Jets had selfish players the last few years and by the verbal diarrhea certain players fulminated at the end of the season last year (including Helle)it was clear they were ready to hang the coach out to dry.
Zip ahead to this ridiculous signing of long term contracts to players who are entering into their post productive years. It's funny how the GM comes out of his cave and meets the press only when he thinks the heat is off so he doesn't have to deal with the hard questions. Were teams waiting for a definite value to be proscribed to these two before committing to a value trade? Why trade at the deadline if you have no guarantee they will stick around? You're less inclined to give value without that assurance. The contract with both has the usual restrictions on trade thus narrowing the scope of potential teams. These are questions which are relevant.
But I'm more inclined to believe that Scheif was presented with the options by his agent and chose the safest route because he didn't like what he was hearing. This GM was left with fewer options because he overstayed Scheif to the detriment of the organization. Helle I'm not really uptight about. At least it is apparent that his value has now been reduced to the 8's not 9's which he likely believed he was worth. As noted above this might be the trigger for other teams to invest in him.

Just watched the highlights(?). Hellebuyck had the one poor goal, and it sure looked like 88 was on for a lot of horror. Must say 55 looked pretty good
