With the evidence mounting that there are only about 11000 people willing to support this version of the Jets at the box office on a regular basis, at least until they have done enough to satisfy the skeptics, the influx of fans who are hostile to the Jets must be accepted as a good thing for the health of the franchise. Oilers and their fans gave attendance a 2000 or so boost on Thursday. Let's hope the Bedard/Hawks and their fans do even better today.
Two decent yet disappointing Jets games that follow the all too familiar pattern of Jets games in recent years probably didn't do much to win back the lost discretionary ticket buyers (who I believe are still out there). Their home record this season is only 6-5-1...kind of same-old, same-old, even if the product is more exciting and has more value than it has in years, in my humble opinion. The record is just not good enough for a team that is not in rebuild mode.
Today's game should give the Jets an opportunity to get some mojo back in their offense, especially the power play.
Losing Namestnikov for a couple of games will probably adversely affect Jets overall defensive game and I think they'll miss him. Gustafsson is no slouch in that department though; he's a decent penalty killer, can win a few faceoffs, Jets should be ok.
What I will be most interested in watching is Declan Chisholm, who is FINALLY getting a chance to play an NHL game in forever. I am not as loyal a Moose follower as I should be but it's widely understood that his strength is on the offensive side of the game. Perhaps he is the point PP specialist the Jets lineup has been aching for? Well see. I was very impressed with the little I saw of him in pre-season...well this is regular season, let's see how it translates. Please, no one and done...give the guy a fair stretch of games to get up to speed and prove himself.
Hellebuyck getting the start...thank goodness (sorry Bross).
From Illegal Curve:
Jets projected lines & D pairs (2nd line, intriguing!): Connor - Scheifele - Ehlers Perfetti - Vilardi - Iafallo Niederreiter - Lowry - Appleton Barron - Gustafsson - Jonsson-Fjallby Morrissey - DeMelo Dillon - Pionk Samberg - Chisholm Hellebuyck Brossoit
Go JETS Go!

There's no reason this cant be a bounce back game given the BH's record. Now last year a dumpsterfire of a team coming in like this has more often than not caused the Jets to lay an egg. I don't think this version of the Jets will allow it.

Well there's some stats. Hawks are last in the dot. I guess no better time to bring up the faceoff %.

Coming off 3 straight losses, one would think this should be a slam dunk for a team needing a win.
But, you never know. The Hawks have beaten a few good teams this season.
