I've heard the talking heads saying it is an NHL record. I was curious whether it actually was, or whether it was a record pulled up by the team statisticians. The team is definitely leading the league in this stat. So, in looking through what records the league keeps, I couldn't find anything like that on the books. Curious. It seems pretty obscure to me. The NHL website describes it as a Jet/Thrasher team record. Nothing there at all about it being an NHL record. I guess enough of us are curious about this and hear about it enough that I had to look it up too lol.
It may be a record kept somewhere by the NHL, although like you say, it seems pretty obscure and hardly like a stat one would normally look up. But I would assume someone with access to all of the NHL's compiled statistical data could derive the stat...which makes me think like you, that it's real but some statistician has come up with this.
The reason I started all this is that I just didn't think this was something that the NHL had in their record books dating back to the birth of the league. A most consecutive games giving up X number of goals category. And, they dont. It's a Jets/Thrasher franchise record and that's fine by me.

I’m not being confrontational here, however: What about the Talking Heads from TSN, CJOB, SportsNet and other Media outlets stating that it’s an NHL record? Are they misleading us? Are they misinformed? Again, Sarge, I’m not being confrontational here, I’m just asking. Have a great night! Cheers, 2b9😃👍

The NHL has been keeping stats for a century or so. It's possible it's never been done before, but you'd have to go back to 1917 and go through all the numbers to call it a record, because it's not on the books. It just started as a curiosity for me when I heard these guys calling it an NHL record. Not a big deal. It's a great stat whichever way. Happy New Year. Celly starts after tomorrow's win.

Here's what surprised me when I was browsing the NHL record book. Way back in the day, when goaltenders looked like stick figures. Skinny little pads. No masks. Half the size of today's goalies. The ridiculously low numbers of goals against that some teams pulled off.
The 28-29 Habs gave up 43 goals in 44 games. That gives one an idea how much the athletes and their equipment have improved.

It would have been hard to hit an open net with a stick carved from a 2 by 4.

Scheifele wasn't sharp offensively, but you can't fault his work ethic in this game. He was strong on the back check and in our zone. He needs to shoot more. He's always looking pass. I think on some plays he's try to make Wheeler type cross passes when they aren't there.
