I am just wondering about a lot of posters expectations and what most would be ok with this post season. First round? Second rounds? Western Conference Finalsr?, Stanley cup appearance? Stanley cup? How far does everyone believe The Jets can go this season? I can realistically them in the Conference Finals. Thsat being said so much depends on puck luck like the bounce of the puck; favorable match-ups; getting hot at the right time and lack of injuries? What are your guys expectations this year?

I think the first round is treacherous for every team in the playoffs. It doesn't matter who you are, if you lose in round 1 it somehow a massive failure.
As for the Jets - getting past the first round will be tough, but very reachable. If they lose, they will roasted, no matter how well they play. If they win...I expect them to go very deep.
So in short, my expectations are nervously hopeful - nervous because of round 1. After that, I keep having visions of them winning the whole thing. Like, actually....

Somehow the Jets don't seem to match up well against the style the Stars or Knights play but maybe that's changed now with the addition of Toffoli, Monahan and a reborn Scheif? Definitely a possibility!
Goaltending is still unproven in the playoffs IMO but we see enough on a regular basis to at least think they should be as good or better than what's at the other end. If they're in a groove, could absolutely steal the odd game for us.
One thing I'm pretty sure of is that other teams are as concerned about playing the Jets as the Jets are about playing them.

If you faced a team before you have firsthand experience what to expect and can learn what you did wrong and come up with a plan B.
On a fanbase level, talking about matchups is totally fine. We're fans, and we talk about and worry about things. As the team themselves, if all they think about is how to avoid so-called unfavorable matchup, they'll likely crack at the first sign of adversity and fall flat on their faces. Playoffs has a funny way of twisting and mutating teams into Lovecraftian monsters. Playoffs equal pressure and every team in them are good to excellent so there are no easy matchups.
If a squad is legit then they can handle and figure out how to beat the team in front of them like all the great ones do. In the end the thing that matters most is winning the big prize and hoisting Lord Stanley's cup over your head.

I don't thing any team worries about their first round matchup in the way you are describing. I think they play each game to win (obviously with various physical efforts that either confirm or deny their true intentions HAHA) with the goal to finish as high up the standings as possible so that they earn a more favourable matchup. But I DO think teams hope for certain matchups. One fascinating thought I've had: By the time the Jets meet Minny on April 6 or the Preds on April 9..if a win by either of one of those two teams puts Vegas out of the playoff picture...what do you do? Play to win or play to not obviously lose? I think no matter what, the Jets will always play to win. |
