Tonight won't be considered a marquee matchup around the NHL, with the stakes being much higher in some other games with teams still fighting for a playoff berth. Jets have a virtual lock on a berth (albeit tempting fate in saying so) and Flames are virtually eliminated.
Still, the Flames never seem to be an easy out for the Jets and you just know they'll be trying hard to play spoiler for the Jets' pursuit of 2nd in the Central.
If the Jets want to put a stamp and exclamation on their playoff berth, tonight's game really shouldn't really be very close.
Two changes to the lineup tonight, one forced by fate, one coach's choice: Toffoli will be back from his short illness but instead of reclaiming his spot on the 2nd line (where Perfetti remains), he will line up in Niederreiter's wing position on the 3rd line. (Nino is out for at least a week they say, with a nasty skate gash on his leg.) - Schmidt is a presumed healthy scratch, replaced by Miller who coach says should be better than his previous games since he's been with the team long enough now to have a better idea of the systems, and won't have to deal with the emotions that he had in the game against his old team, the Devils.
Hellebuyck starts.
Jets projected lines & D pairs:
Ehlers - Scheifele - Vilardi Connor - Monahan - Perfetti Toffoli - Lowry - Appleton Barron - Namestnikov - Iafallo
Morrissey - Pionk Dillon - DeMelo Samberg - Miller
Hellebuyck Brossoit

If the Jets manage to lose tonight, it really won't matter if they get into the playoffs. Hellebuyck has gone cold in the losing streak, and that goal isn't going to help team confidence.

Hrudey "rentless pressure on Pionk" and bang a goal. What's he doing out there on a PK?

Worse than the goal being scored on them, the Flames' puck carrier came right into the slot without being challenged. Has the team given up already?

1 goal on 2 shots, not promising and now a post. Looks like we are going to make Wolf look like George Vezina tonight.

Yeah, I see that. Thank goodness we have Bross, I have complete confidence in him If Helle keeps this up, he'll have to suck it up and defer to Bross.
