If anyone wants to check out the advanced stats & shot charts after that crazy 1st game or just read my recap of the action, click the link below: www.arcticicehockey.com/playoff-game-1-recap-avalanche-jets/If you just want to see the Game Observations, here they are: That was one of the more exciting games of hockey I’ve watched….end to end action, hard hits, and plenty of goal scoring. That being said, I really don’t want to see the Winnipeg Jets involved in another such contest in the post-season. Our squad can’t rely on winning shooting galleries against an offensive powerhouse like Colorado, so they need to return to their defensive structure in Game 2.
7 goals scored in a playoff game…that’s a new franchise record for Winnipeg.
I don’t have time to dig into the advanced stats, but Kyle Connor & Adam Lowry had very good games, while the pairing of Dylan Samberg & Logan Stanley seemed to have a rough outing.
Adam Lowry led the Jets in hits with 6, while Neal Pionk & Logan Stanley were nipping at his heels with 5 apiece.
Mark Scheifele also played fairly well, with a team leading 3 pts (tied with Connor) and 52.6% at the face-off dot.
The Jets’ defensemen missed the net a combined 9 times in the opening match, while the forwards only shot wide 6 times. You can’t get rebound goals when you don’t hit the net!!
Four of Winnipeg’s top five in expected goals actually put at least one by Colorado’s goalie…Kyle Connor (2 goals & 0.47 xG), Adam Lowry (2 goals & 0.29 xG), Vladislav Namestnikov (goal & 0.249 xG), and Mark Scheifele (goal & 0.236 xG). The only player who failed to score was Tyler Toffoli (0.225 xG).Onto game 2 where I expect the Jets to try to slow down the pace of the game by quite a bit.....Go Winnipeg!! Thanks for sharing this👍. Cheers, 2b9😉😃👍

Wife and I went to the game. Insane barely describes it. Here's a few thoughts... Lowry was in full beast mode all night. That check by KFC to set up a goal was tremendous, and needs to be seen far more often! Did Tofoli play last night?? He was invisible. Helly had little to no help all night long. Think Stanley needs some popcorn and Schmidt needs to get into the game. Someone had a good point that perhaps the pressure of playing in front of the insanity in the building took a few guys by surprise. Hard to imagine that they've lost what 8 or 9 in a row now?? There were extended periods where we looked like we were just barely hanging on. I left the arena last night feeling like we may have stolen that game from them. Also no question our goalie is far better than theirs. Final thought: Damn McKinnon is good. That was the first time seeing him play live and wow.... Crazy game, glad the Jets won. I was watching the game with friends, at 3-3, I predicted to my friends that the Jets would win 7-4, didn’t think it would get to 7-6. Crazy 80’s style hockey, just glad that we won👍. Cheers, 2b9😉😃👍

Give up 6 goals and win a playoff game? That would have to be rare. You can't count on lousy goaltending at the other end. That Av goaltending was apparently top 5 bad since advanced stats arrived. 4 plus goals over expected. Hellebucyk wasn't stellar but was better. The Jets were outplayed. It's not confidence building. Better slow Colorado down in the neutral zone. They attack with incredible speed and the Jets backed up far too much.

Well, my Mom watched the game last night/Sunday night, she loved it, loved the excitement of the back and forth.
I’m like Mom, can’t have another game like that again this series.
She’s like, no, it was so much fun to watch.
I didn’t go any further😂😉👍.
Cheers,

This was a game best forgotten. Hellebuyck was not at his best, but he had plenty of company in that. I am concerned that a precedent has been set by the players that they were able to fall back to firewagon hockey, ignore the system that saved their butts for the last 8 games and still win. They won largely because Gordiev was very, very beatable. At least two Avalanche goas were gimmes because of Jet goofs. The Avs do not look like Cup contenders and, frankly, neither did the Jets last night. They'll tighten things up Bones will stress this. Even Lowry mentioned it. Hopefully, I don’t want to see another game this series where the Jets allow 45 shots against and only put up 24 on the AV’S. Cheers, 2b9😉😃👍

This is offence against defence - at least apparently so. From the standpoint of GF carryover in placement Jets stand around 13th of the 16 teams in the playoffs. Avs of course are number 1. Conversely GA carryover Jets are number 1 and Avs are well down the list being 17th in the regular season. The thing about the Jets is their improvement in the PP and Jets have guys who have offensive punch so you can never count them out. And Lowry. What can you say about him. He always comes big in the playoffs. Think about the first time Jets 2.0 were in the playoffs with Ducks he got as many points as the number 1 center Little despite the Jets' @sses being kicked in that series. Yep, Lowry gives it his all, seems for some reason come playoff time he is so clutch, I’ll take it👍. 2b9😉😃👍

Looks like the site crashed. Yikes, that's bad timing. But..... A win is a win is a win!! Hope Jets get back to their smothering ways again soon, and shut em down. See ya's Tuesday!! I was having issues all night and eventually couldn't even get the site to load. Finally gave up trying early in the 3rd. Glad the Jets held onto win. I want to see Winnipeg return to games where there barely is a shot on net for the opening 5 minutes of play ( for either team)...that typically is an early sign that they are playing Bones' system well. Game 2 = shut down D. 100% agree with you on your last paragraph, can’t continue to do the track meet thing. Play the system. 2b9😉😃👍

I'm stuck listening to the game but it sounds like a good one Dang sorry bro, I missed the first period myself. Since I came in this has been like watching 16 yr olds vs 13 yr olds, but the 16 yr old team has a 5 yr old in net, 😆. 😂🤣😉👍
