Perfetti ($2.75-3M), Gus/Stanley/Heinola ($2.85-3M) Leaving around $4.5-5.5M to add something. 2nd line center? Lambert would eat up less than $900k of that if they want to upgrade another position with the remainder (plus replaced player's salary). |

Signing Colin Miller is strange given we hardly played him after the trade deadline. In the games he did play, he seemed better than Pionk though. Maybe he will be D #7 on the roster or 6/7?

This is what I have as the Winnipeg Jets/Manitoba Moose's depth charts are after the first day of Free Agency:   After Kevin Cheveldayoff’s limited moves, he still has $10,261,309 left to spend to fill out his roster ( Lambert's $887k salary not deducted from that amount cause I am unsure he will win that spot). So the team has that much to re-sign RFAs Perfetti, Gustafsson, Stanley, Heinola and find a 2C with that money or try giving the rookie a shot and improve another spot ( i.e. Appleton's salary plus money left over after RFAs signed would be in the $5.5 to $6M range to find more forward talent or Pionk's $5.85M would give the team close to $10M to fill a 1st or 2nd RD spot). |

Wow! Disaster! I feel like all chips went in and now we have to fold.
Our only hope is to improve right defense through trade with assets McGroaty and Ehlers.
2C has to be Perfetti and then we get two D men through trade.
I feel like Chevy can only focus on one trade at a time....
Chevy focused so much on Monahan that everything else fell apart. And Monahan contributed jack #hit to our playoff run.
So now we need a 2C and we have a brutal D squad.
Have to trade Ehlers and McGroaty for D men just to make sure we are not an embarrassment and pray that Perfetti can be a 2C which is hopeful at best.
If Chevy isn't rated dead last in the whole league for this Free Agent day then...

Best thing I can think of is a trade with Ottawa for Shane Pinto or to NYR for Chytil for McGroaty and then move Ehlers to a team for a top 3 D man, maybe with Rangers for Schneider. Agggh!

Winnipeg is constantly named as the least desirable city by players. Personally I don't see this as a " disaster ". They resigned a serviceable D man ( as long as they play him ) and picked up a decent backup goalie. Monahan would have been good to retain but he got max dollars and more term than I'd want give to him .They created some cap space with the buyout. It's the same core that was 5th in the NHL last year. There are definitely a few tweaks needed though. |

Yet with 10 million of cap space perhaps he will still surprise! What do you guys think? The fact that Nashville is in a no-tax state, with great weather, and an exciting city allowed them to make those signings. Winnipeg has none of those things. So it's our city that can't compete, not Chevy. |

I don't mind Lambert getting a shot at 2C especially if they believe he's ready. Monahan faltered in the playoffs and received too long of a term IMO. Perfetti could also be ready for that role. If you sign some older players the young guys have no room.
I'm more worried about the D. Samburg is probably ready for second pairing but on the right side Demelo and Pionk should be dropped down a pairing. They'd then be fine. Problem is no first pairing RHD unless Solomonsson blows them away. Perhaps they think he could?

Jets schedule released today.....quite the chance to get off to a good start with 9 of the first 10 games against non-playoff teams (last season).
