Well, the 2024 Entry Draft is nearly upon us. Less than 2 hrs until the draft starts and so far the Winnipeg Jets haven't made a move into the 1st.
Saw a few top 70 players in the draft lists and only the top 12 players are projected to be top line or top D pairing talents. After that, there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between player #13 to player #36. Yes, if you want a bigger 2nd liner/pairing player, then you will likely need a pick that starts with a 1-something, and really best before the 17th pick if you want the ones with the least amount of flaws in their games.
After the top 36 , it looks like teams will be lucky to find a middle sixer or a long-term defensive project that ends up panning out as a top 4 guy. With Winnipeg Jets typical luck, their first pick of the draft is 37th. lol.
While a pick or two may come back in the returns for possible trade baits (Ehlers/McGroarty), I don't think we should expect a very high one. Think we would be lucky to get in the 18th to 32nd range of the 1st round for either player if the team is also looking for a prospect that could potentially help right away. We will see. They also don't need to move either at the draft, especially Ehlers who might net more in return if the other team could work out an extension first (can't until July 1st).
What does everyone think? Should Chevy make a move to get back into the first?

Some of the trade rumours being bandied about online are pretty out there. Including McG to Columbus for Laine with retention and a D-man. Chicago is mentioned in an Ehlers/McGroarty package for players and a 1st rounder. Not the Hawks 2nd of course. It would be 18. I'm thinking a player deal would have better potential value than 18th for Chevy.
Spitballing abound. Let's see if Chevy can pull something off

Chevy will stand pat if he doesn’t get what he’s looking for, he’ll wait until he gets what he wants, it may not happen today, if it doesn’t happen today, he will wait it out until he gets what he’s wanting/looking for.
I give Chevy credit, he’s savvy, wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled it off today, also wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to wait it out.
Cheers,

Possibly first trade of the draft with PHI on the clock at #12.....
PHI trades #12 to MIN for #13 and a 3rd next year.

Power Outage here in North Kildonan.
Anyone else experiencing this?
This sucks for the Draft and any other potential whatever/Jets wise, trades, etc.
Cheers,

If the Jets were to trade into the 1st, I would think it would happen with the 20th pick (NYI) or 27th (CAR).
Don't think either is that likely.
