I was wondering what other people were rooting for if we weren't called the Jets? I know there was a lot of support for 'Falcons', and I was also hoping for 'Whiteouts' although I knew this was never going to happen. I was looking through old Winnipeg Hockey team names, and there were a lot; I found a big list but I appear to have lost it, but some names I remember were Monarchs, Victorias, South Blues, Warriors, Blues, Saints & Braves.. Do you think any of these would have been used? What were you rooting for if not the Jets? and what other names did you hear being thrown around? Thanks

Other than Jets, I didn't mind Falcons and thought that there were some cool possibilities as far as logo and jerseys were concerned.

I wanted Jets with the old logo and jerseys with a new alternate jersey and alternate logo.

It would be interesting to learn from TNSE what other names were considered.

The 4 choices for names were Jets, Moose, Falcons, and Polar Bears. If the team wasn't called the Winnipeg Jets, my next choice would've been the Manitoba Jets. I remember Hendrix (or Alex) saying during the Winter that it was a 100% chance that the team would be called the Manitoba _____. I was of course surprised that they chose the Winnipeg Jets.

I have it on very good authority that Chipman REALLY wanted the name to be Manitoba Polar Bears. The thinking at Tue North from some of the other employees was that Thomson was the driving force behind the final Winnipeg Jets moniker. Personally I could have lived with any name, but glad its the Jets.

I agree. They could have been called the Dancing Sausage Monkeys and I still would have bought a jersey.

Rebellion was always my favourite alternative (Either Manitoba or Red River).

I heard somebody once mention River City Rebels and thought that was awesome. Manitoba Chill... as in "The Chill iced the Flames 3-1 as Evander Kane notched a natural hatrick"

they decided not to do falcons for the liberty of the Atlanta fans. That is their football teams name.

they decided not to do falcons for the liberty of the Atlanta fans. That is their football teams name. Pretty sure there was an article mentioning about copyright issues for everything but Jets and Moose. So they went with the popular choice. I don't think the NFL Falcons had anything to do with.
