It is sort of weird thought, to name this team after the old team that left us. I'm glad they called them the Jets but what happens to the records now? The days of Bobby Hull and #9 belong to the Coyotes. We have the Thrashers history now, so what happens? Can we even lay claim- in the eyes of the hockey world- to our previous history?

Rebellion was always my favourite alternative (Either Manitoba or Red River). I agree with this...Rebellion was my favorite alternative too.

I thought "Winnipeg HC" was an original idea - let the fans use whatever nickname they wanted. One guess what they would have gone with.

they decided not to do falcons for the liberty of the Atlanta fans. That is their football teams name. Also, Hockey Canada ownes the trademark to "Winnipeg Falcons"

I never believed the name was ever a serious possibility, but I liked the "Winnipeg Wolves".
The upsides would have been the:
-2 "W" sounds in the name
-winter landscapes wolves live in as jersey colors and shoulder patches
-strength, resourcefulness and intimidation factor of the wolf as a team figurehead
-tie-in to environmental awareness
The downsides would have included all the teams who already have "Wolf" names. (Minnesota T-Wolves and the Chicago Wolves come readily to mind), as well as no apparent history of teams from here having "Wolf" names.
Go Wolves!

Another one that was never in play but I always liked is "Winnipeg Whips".
