This is what happened in the NFL when the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore. The Ravens were considered an expansion team with the Cleveland Browns franchise and all stats etc put "on-hold" for a few years until they were "reactivated". Don't see why it couldn't work for us here. Good point. But if that were to happen, Thrasher player/team records would not be applied to the current Jets. They would be considered a folded NHL team -- much like the California Golden Seals, for example. I think most would be ok with this Except for maybe Atlanta fans. But even playing Devil's Advocate, if I were an Atlanta fan, I'd much rather have my records separate. Some might think of it as "disrespect" or "trying to erase the team from history", but I think it's more disrespectful to claim records in another city as your own. It would have been better if Phoenix would have just left the Jets history behind and started from scratch.

I don't care one way or the other if the Jets history is given back to you guys. It's a non-issue to Yotes fans who are too worried about keeping the team alive. When the Yotes began, I was living in NJ hoping to move to Phoenix one day. As far as I was concerned then, they were an expansion team that I wanted to latch onto. That's as far as I am concerned now as well. However, let me address three points: 1. A history section removed from a website doesn't necessarily indicate such a direction. It could simply indicate a reorganization of that site given the confusion of the Winnipeg Jets now existing today. 2. Yotes celebrating 15 years, this not counting the Jets years, means nothing to your dreams. We celebrated 10 years in Phoenix as well. Any milestone will be based on Yotes team only, just as any similar celebration would take place in Calgary or Colorado or Carolina. No indication of history being returned. 3. As for the dream of some grand announcement during the game next Saturday; why would they do that? That game is about the Yotes' home opener and beating the crap out of whoever they play. It's not about some moment that makes all nice nice for the few Jets fans who care about the return of stuff that they already have (history is history. You cant hold it in your hands). Fans want a surprise announcement that night of a new owner, not that we are giving something we don't give a crap about over to you sentimental dreamers. I may be proven wrong on all three points above, but I figured I would offer a bit of reality to you before the Easter Bunny comes and takes away your hollow chocolate bunnies. -TODD Wow, really classy. There's a way to make the same points without being so abrasive about it. And for the record, no I'm not over sensitive, just sayin

They may never get back historical records and that's fine. I never suggested that they would on Oct 15th - that was a rumour from back in June.

I will say this:
I never thought TNSE would ever use the Winnipeg Jets name for the new team.
Then the unthinkable happened on June 24th.
So, stranger things have happened.

I've often wondered if the transfer of records would happen.
I was thinking the other day. What if the Coyotes relocate to Quebec and become the Nordiques. Imagine how confusing that would get. Old Jets records belong to new Nordiques. Old Nordiques records belong to Colorado.
Norqidues all time points leader is.........Dale Hawerchuck. Huh??

I think we will get the history back at some point...I've always thought it would be up to Chipman as I can't see the NHL or Coyotes having a real problem with it...I'm guessing Chipman could have changed his mind since the Jets name was adopted again...the Jets history means nothing to PHX, but a lot to Winnipeg... Exactly. Which is why the History section, as I described in my first post, was removed from the Coyotes website. Which is why the Coyotes are celebrating 15 seasons of Phx Coyote hockey this year --- not taking into account the original Wpg Jet years. The Winnipeg Jets are the Winnipeg Jets - past, present and future. Time for everyone to accept our history and heritage and be proud of it. You are absolutely right!!! The Winnipeg Jets represents a hockey team based in Winnipeg. This whole "franchise history continuity" thing to me is a load of crap. The NHL owners of the Coyotes should do the right thing and return the history to us. This is no different than when the Cleveland Browns franchise moved to Baltimore to become the Ravens. Cleveland got an expansion franchise that retained the history and records of the Browns 1.0 because it was the right thing to do.

And just to make sure I'm not misunderstood: I'm bot saying the history will not be returned. I think it will be, and probably soon, I'm just saying that the website adjustment, the 15 year celebration, or the dream of some tearful handing over of the history durin the season opener in AZ, is not necessarily an indicator or upcoming event.
PS, the Jets colored retired numbers were still up I'm the rafters last Saturday night during the preseason finale. Now, if THEY were missing, THAT would have been an indicator for sure.

I bet ya they will be taken down.

The retired numbers feature no logo or Jets name. They are placards only, but the Jets numbers use old Jet colors while the Yote numbers use Yote colors. TNSE does not own rights to light refraction.

I read somewhere that even thought TNSE owns the old Jets logos and stuff, they have to be dormant for FIVE years.
