Many of you can recall that on the official Coyotes site there was a History section with a write-up and pictures choronologically outlining the history of the Jets/Coyotes franchise. I recall small pics of the Portage and Main Hawerchuk signing; Hull's #9 retirement at the Arena in 1989, etc.
Well, that section is no longer there.
Now, there are still sections outlining draft history and all-time roster - including stats which of course include our old Jets (79-96).
But now, that is all that is there. Just names and stats. No images or pictures of old Jets or the logo to be found anywhere.
I suspect TNSE asked the NHL to have that removed from the Coyotes site - seeing as how anything with the old Jets logo on it is their property.
Just thought that was interesting to point out.

I still think Phoenix is going to hand over our history at their first home game. With the NHL owning the team they can do pretty much anything they want to.

Look at last night, they showed old Jets highlights. I think the majority of fans have already "blended" the history of the old into the new. Is anyone super excited about the 1st New jersey game? That is when "our" leading scorer makes his first appearance in Winnipeg. I would think the majority don't care as Kovaluchuk never played a game here. Now Dec 17th is going to be nuts when Selanne comes here even though he officially isn't part of this Jets team history. It's totally whacked and thats why I think the NHL will fix this and why the Jets are the first team the Coyotes play at home this year. It will be better for Phoenix too if we get our history back

By history I guess everyone thinks of records and stats.
By everything else, well, we OWN our history. Its part of our heritage.
True North owns the name and ALL likeness to the old Jets (logos, jersey designs, etc).
We can showcase all that because its OURS - not Phoenix's.

Yes I was refering to the stats and what not. We already own the logos, jerseys, etc. Phoenix never had those I don't believe. Basically it would put an end to everyone saying "Phoenix are the jets."

Exactly. The NHL retained the rights to the name and all logos after the Jets became the Phoenix Coyotes. By that definition, the Winnipeg Jets ceased to be, in every sense of that identity, in 1996. Even referring to the Yotes today as "Jets 1.0" is inaccurate.

Can you remember anyone refering to the Atlanta thrashers as Atlanta 2.0? Maybe the first season? I don't recal ever reading how Calgary is Atlanta. Atlanta did go with a new name, but I just don't think it was ever discussed the way our situation is. If it was, the entire concept dissapeared with time.

I guess the 'Atlanta 2.0' thing never came up simply because Calgary kept the Flames name and even the color scheme.

Plus Calgary doesn't really tout former Atlanta players from their history (not that they had a ton to brag about, plus being a Canadian team with fans, they didn't need to whore their old history to get people in the door)

This has been rumored for quite some time now. I fully expect it to happen as Mr. Chipman has always said if used the Jets name he would want the history as well.

Chipper and Co. pretty much own everything else -- name, old logos, etc -- how do they get back recorded player history? If they do, what happens to Thrashers statistical history? I suppose it can lay dorment -- removed completely. Like say if a team folded, their stats just don't continue. Coyotes can retro-start their statistical history from 1996-97 - onward. As if to say they were an expansion team. Can we 'attach' previous Jets stats to our new team? Like continuing from where we left off -- 1995-96 and then 2011-12? Who knows.

As much as I would love to see the old records go to the current Jets, I don't think the league wants to mess with all the details. I'd put the odds of it happening as 5/1 against.

Its not like Winnipeg is whoring their old history either.

I'm still not convinced that we're going to get our stats back... but if we do my guess is it would make sense to just add the Jets 1.0 stats to ours (officially). The thrashers stats would also stay with us, just because I'm guessing the league won't want the stats to go "dormant"
