Hey guys,
I just wanted to ask you all on for your opinion on the chances that the Western Hockey League will now return to Winnipeg now that the Jets are back. There hasn't been a WHL team in the Winnipeg market since the 80s with the Winnipeg Warriors.
The times have changed though, and the reason why Winnipeg is a good NHL market is also a great reason why its a WHL market. It has been shown many times over that a junior team can exist in the same market of a WHL team. The Calgary Hitmen are one of the most successful WHL franchises and are owned by the Calgary Flames. Being owned by them allows them to use the Saddledome and have a strong marketing arm. Most games have at least 5000 to 6000 fans a game. The success of Calgary prompted the Oilers purchase an expansion WHL team, the Oil Kings, and have grown their fan base since their creation in 2008. The Vancouver Giants while not owned by the Canucks, have been successful for 10 years and have won a memorial cup.
I know I am rambling a bit but having a team owned by TSNE in Winnipeg makes sense to me. First, they could make extra money through concessions and ticket sales on nights the jets are not playing. Second, they would be a natural rival to the Brandon Wheat Kings and in doing so would likely become successful relatively quickly. Last, TSNE has a brand and jerseys they can already use: the Winnipeg Moose.
Any thoughts?

i saw what you did there! ;D i did the same on the true north thread. whoever said Selkirk is a better choice for WHL. i never gave that much thought until now. makes perfect sense too! put this team in Selkirk. the town would go crazy for them. and its only a 20 min drive from the city. we could do this no problem and at the same time shove it down glendales throats and kill off another of their excuses!

After watching the last couple of jets losses, I can certainly imagine what a WHL team would play like :/

I yelled that out at the game last night in the first period.
"HEY TRUE NORTH, WHY BUY AN WHL TEAM WHEN WE ALREADY HAVE ONE"
Most clearly had not heard the news.

I would all be for another expansion... To be honest expansion teams are so much better then relocating a team... because its a fresh start

^ I don't think any of the CHL are interested in expanding. There aren't enough top notch prospects to fill three 30 team leagues plus the OCAA, Europe etc.
