To top it all off, they blame the weather which our winter has been mostly mild.

To top it all off, they blame the weather which our winter has been mostly mild. It was the wind that delayed things, not the temp. But yeah, the Bombers aren't exactly "perfect" when it comes to management. I don't know why they even bothered saying there was "no way we will play in the old stadium"... I don't even see what they gained by that! They can't control the construction, let alone the weather, but I really don't see why they've let this be such a big story. Just say "it'll be ready when it's ready, and we'll go from there when we know"

Maybe True North should buy the Bombers?

I thought wind was an even worse excuse, which is why I didn't even mention it. Believe me, the place is a disaster.

I thought wind was an even worse excuse, which is why I didn't even mention it. Believe me, the place is a disaster. From what ive heard from people who know what they are talking about, who arnt actually working on the stadium. The wind is delaying them putting the metal roof things on and they cant work if the wind is like 10km/h. So they basiclly need days of 0 wind to work on the roof and that roof is delaying the whole project. And of course in winnipeg you get very few days of no wind.

My project experience is limited to sub-$1,000,000 projects but right off the hop I thought the Bombers timelines were tight. If it had been my project I would have planned for a Banjo Bowl opening day.
At the very least I never would have made absolute statements about never using the old barn again. No reward in making such proclamations but a big risk of looking stupid.

My prediction, we are in it in 2013 with it completely finished. I don't want to go into a stadium that doesn't have all teh amenities etc reaady. Do it the right way Bombers
My other prediction, cost will be around $245 million when finished and the loand will quietly be forgiven in 2 years
The new stadium will be awesome

I see it my way. The weather has been a majority of above normal seasonal temperatures. I say, if you have a project of this magnitude you WORK regardless of the conditions unless they are to an EXTREME level of counter productive measure. The stadium delay using wind as an issue, from the winter we had considering this is Winnipeg is pulling the wool over our eyes. Case closed.

Do it right the first time. Like Duece said, the message they incurred on the fans really pigeon holed our expectations. Now they look foolish to start off, secondly, our off season campaign has been nothing short of a disaster.

Try dangling a 1-tonne steel beam 100 feet in the air from a huge crane... you can stand under that sucker when they lower it into position in a howling wind. I don't know that much about construction and I obviously am not working on this project, but it was a fairly ambitious schedule from the get go and there's a lot more than just cold temps that can affect things.

They will be playing their first 4 or 5 games on the road to buy more time. However, that's probably not enough time. Looks like they'd better prep Canad Inns just in case.

I guarantee, that granted this collective of government spending paired together with the delays are the cause of this debacle. Maneuvering through all the red tape, from the project managers right down to the union reps have a trickle effect that negates the issue altogether. Monitoring the costs requires checks and balances for sure, but the 'full steam ahead' approach the Bombers had given fans false hope.

If you have to be negative, be negative about new Bomber CEO Garth Buchko (sp?) making the bold promise to never, ever play in CIS again and then when it came time to tell the truth, he sent out-going CEO Jim Bell to take the heat on NHL trade deadline day (they also released fan favourite Fred Reid that day to take the heat off).
We all knew they werent investing potentially a few hundred thousand to upgrade CIS for one pre-season game. Now they finally admit it.
But dont be negative about the Stadium. Its going to get done and going to be great. They even quietly announced an additional upgrade of the video ribbon which is very cool.
Also, wind delays arent excuses. have you ever been up that high in a crane trying to put a giant piece of steel in place during our winds? Come on...
They have to finish the arches to support the canopy before they can remove the temp support beams. until then, they cant begin on the lower bowl.

No one here should be negative. I'm just pissed that we won't be having a cool new facility in time as advertised.
