so here it is. where do you guys stand on this? personally, i think it should be legal and the law needs to be changed. the money generated through taxes on legalized pot would pay for our roads and cover health care with plenty left over. and that is just the beginning.

Weed should be legalized, and there should be tighter restrictions placed on alcohol.

I say start throwing the book at common every day users of weed. With thousands of people killed every year over drugs, I say charge anyone caught with a joint with accessory to murder. Kidding aside, I'm against it. But I think they should start punishing the every day user with much more severe punishment, or legalize it. Throwing the dealer in jail when you turn a blind eye to the user is never going to make a difference, the government just needs to decide if they really want it to be illegal or not because right now it's a grey area in practice. mcguire - if you really believe the taxes from pot would "pay for our roads and cover health care with plenty left over" I suggest you stay off the stuff for a little while

i vote for decriminalized. In my opinion legalization would f up everything and put forth a crappy/ unhealthy product. How many companies like Players or Malborough [sp?] would launch a product full of chemicals? All of em. It's funny how you can catch a similar or more severe charge from growing and distributing tobacco than Marijuana. I would imagine there would be even stiffer laws against personal marijuana growers if it were legalized in order to protect the governments cut. The only bonus about legalization is that there would be more honest education towards young people about the effects and dangers of marijuana smoking.
Anyone who says there should be stiffer penalties against marijuana users has probably never smoked, or inhaled marijuana. I have smoked weed for as long as I've been drinking alcohol and I can honestly say I would rather introduce my kids to Marijuana out of the two.
I could go on about this subject for days, but i refrain.

Studies have shown that unless you are a heavy user then it is not bad for you. In fact I would say that it is probably better than cigarettes. It should be legalized.

I really don't much care on the subject, and can see pro's and cons of both. But, IF it remains illegal then I think it only makes sense to crack down on the users. That's the only way to stop it. I mean just think about it logically, we let people use it but think we can stop people from growing and selling it? It just doesn't make sense. It would be like looking the other way when someone shoots somebody, but trying to arrest gun manufacturers. Make it legal or illegal, but I don't see the point of this shell game where it's illegal, but everyone lets everyone do it and we just try to arrest the dealers and growers. $500 fine the first time your caught with a joint. $1000 the second time. $5000 for any subsequent fines. This puts more money into our roads and healthcare than legalizing it!

It seems laughable but it would likely curb drug use more so than arresting a dealer. If the government believes drug use should be illegal, than punish the people who are using drugs. You may disagree that it should be illegal, but as long as it is I just think it should be properly enforced. Clearly a policy of looking the other way for users while trying to crack down on dealers and growers is not working.

Legalize and tax the hell out of it.
Personally, the fact someone might get a high from the stuff is less unsettling to me then someone inhaling tar-filled cigarettes that pose no physical benefit whatsoever.

Not to mention that weed is not addictive so they will probably fix that too. I agree that there would be a lot of benefits from collecting tax off it, but the government would definitely f@ck it up.

I know the US spends billions every year on the war on drugs, I have no idea what Canada spends.
I would legalize it and tax the hell out of it. It would be cheaper and safer for those that want to use it to get it.
