^ I get you're not a VFL fan slippy, but I mean sponsorships might leave and television deals might switch over to NFL. The fans would be there in the cities, but if the big coorperate and television dollars aren't coming in then the League may find it difficult to stay afloat.

My main concern is what affect the NFL in Toronto would have on the CFL, and wether a NFL team there could survive long term. Attendance isn't great for the Argos and I don't think the Bills have sold out in their Toronto games. Skydome would have to sell out everygame to support the NFL from a report I read a couple years ago. And with the NFL in Toronto, the Ti-Cats, Argos (Prolly would just fold) and the new Ottawa team would all suffer, what would happen to the rest of the CFL? Then if the Toronto NFL team folds, what happens next. Seems like a lot of big risks for small gain if the NFL expands into Canada. The NFL didn't sell out but the ticket prices were insanely high. I think I remember reading they lowered them this year. Overall the Bills claimed they made an extra 8 million dollars than they would have by playing the game in Buffalo. Skydome wouldn't have to just sell out to have a team. It would have to be REPLACED. When asked at his super bowl press conference about a Toronto team Roger Goodell said a new stadium would be required and Skydome wasn't good enough.

I remember hearing that as well. There aren't any plans to build a football stadium in Toronto so I doubt highly that the NFL will put a team here full time in the near future. A team is going to LA first regardless and as mentioned above there isn't a big list of teams that are going to be on the move anytime soon.

Not sure if I'm correct on this or not, help me out here because I don't follow CFL at all but wasn't there talk that if the NFL ever tried to come to Canada fulltime the Canadian govenment was going to try and step in to block it to save the CFL???

^ Yeah I think I remember hearing something similar. Not sure what the government could do, if anything. Both Leagues are private buisnesses and they can set up their franchises wherever they want. The Canadian Government can't make CBC pick up their games and broadcast them and they can't just fund the League. It dosen't matter anyways I think that the NFL is less likely than the MLB back in Montreal.

LA probably gets the next 2 teams if more than 1 team moves. Another problem for NFL to Toronto in the future is what if the Blue Jays ask for some help with a new stadium in the next 10 years? It could happen. The Dome is second to last multipurpose circular baseball stadiums left. It's also 1 of 2 stadiums left without natural grass.

Not a good way to start out promoting a new league in a new country by killing the old league. How many people would boycott the NFL if they killed the CFL?

CFL is more popular in Canada than the NFL anyways. Would be a hard enough sell from the get go.

I know it's a different scenario, but the Government could have nixed Target's move into Canada. The Government can make CBC do a lot of things seeing as it is a Government entity. The Government is all powerful!!!! Respect the Government! Do not question the Government!!

I still think it would be difficult for the government to force CBC and other companies in Canada to fund the CFL enough to keep it alive if they didn't want to. Sure they can encourage them and offer tax and financial breaks if they do but in the end, the governemtn can't force a private company to invest in something they have no interest in let alone enough to keep a league afloat. Either way its a long way off and a long shot at that for the NFL to goto Toronto IMO.

These days new NFL stadiums cost, oh, about $1 billion dollars (makes me laugh when the Bombers say our $190 million stadium will be "state-of-the-art"). Don't think anyone in Toronto has that lying under a mattress for a rainy day.
Well, except for David Thomson possibly.

^ Plus the cost of a team which would prolly still be more expensive than the stadium. Toronto will not host the NHL for some time if they ever do.

Don't think anyone in Toronto has that lying under a mattress for a rainy day. Well, except for David Thomson possibly. It costs a hell of a lot less to build a 33,000 seat stadium than it does to build a 60,000 seat stadium with a ton of luxury boxes. If you had ever been to one of those billion dollar stadiums, you would know why they cost a billion dollars and ours only costs 200 million. The extras they put into those stadiums that are not really nessisary to watch a football game are just insane. One example of how you are wrong about the new bomber stadium is that the stadium will have two 30-feet high by 110-feet wide video boards, one behind each end zone. Those screens happen to be the 2nd largest in north america and the same ones that were used in the construction of the new Giants/Jets Stadium. Dont give me this crap about how crapty our new stadium will be when you have never been in it. You hate the Bombers, but there is no need to crap all over them whenever you get the chance.
