Ok, I think I got it: Nashville, Anaheim, Columbus, Miami, Tampa, and Carolina all were awarded NHL teams because it was " an experiment". Winnipeg got a new NHL team because we had an NHL franchise playing in a non-NHL buiding from 1979-1996. Gotcha. The American cities you list above were awarded teams in very large part to expand the game in the US as part of the plan to land a large $$ national TV deal in the US that the NHL/Bettman dreamed about. Arguably, losing small Canadian cities like Winnipeg and Quebec City and relocating those teams to US cities fit in with the above plan. In other words, the reasons for placing a team in a small Canadian city that loves hockey are totally different than the reasons for placing them in large American cities where hardly anyone knows about the game. I also agree that the legacy of the Winnipeg Jets was a large factor in Winnipeg regaining an NHL team at this time - that together with TNSE's great vision and efforts. Bettman himself mentioned the words "righting a wrong" in connection with having teams return to both Quebec City and Winnipeg. He made such comments around the time Balsillie was trying to relocate the Coyotes to Hamilton. So, yes, I'd say that the original Jets are a factor in our having the current Jets.

I hear the hijack police sirens. Everybody act natural! IMHO a Winnipeg heritage jersey has to look old school and connect with Jets fans somehow. That leaves the 17 wing Flyers, original WHA, 79-96 NHL team and that's about it. Totally agree there can't be Victorias or Falcons! No one knows anything about them except what they saw on the clip the jets show during intermissions. Outside of that those two teams are a trivia question at best. Here's something that would fly off the shelves. This guy knows!

Here's my pick for the era of the NHL version of the Jets As much as the 90's was magical and we'd all pay to see a whole team wearing Selanne 13's and 8's - that's not historic yet, just emotional.

So what truly meets all of the criteria? A redesigned combo of some or all of the above

Based on Chipman's preference, I think we will truly get a WHA-Jets era jersey as a throwback. Either of the follwing two:

Sorry slippy. Can't use the Victoria's jersey since it uses a maple leaf and according to TML fans they are the rightful owner as the national team.
Seriously though I like the idea of bringing in some of the design elements of those. How about we put "NOT TORONTO" lettering across the maple leaf?

Actually, now that I think about it and now that I've seen all the jerseys, I think that the 1972 WHA original Jets jersey (maybe in "Polar Midnight Blue") might be the way to go!
