Another fun question from the wolfman. Should we cut ties with Britian and fully become an independant nation? Do we accept soverignty, or do we stick with the status quo? Please discuss, this one can be as juicy as the political party one I had a while ago.

This isn't really a controversial question. The Queen is merely a symbolic figurehead who does nothing (which, actually, makes the Governor General another useless figurehead). Canada is not a British Colony. So, overall, the majority of the Canadian population wouldn't notice, nor would they care, if the Queen was no longer head of our federal government.
And, yeah, as Deuce wrote, the lockout is over.

I think its time we got rid of the old hag. We are not British, we are not American. We are Canadian and its time to become a 100% soverign nation.

The GG does have some limited power but generally does not act without a request from the Prime Minister.
There is no reason to remove the Queen as head of state. Its symbolic of our history. Its worth keeping.

^ I would endorse Canada becoming a Republic. We are Canadian, not British. People have complained about Canada lacking identity, if we keep the Queen, we are doing nothing about that.

Canada's Head of State should be an office available to any Canadian citizen who demonstrates the leadership qualities required for the job.
Our Head of State should not be based upon being born to a particular family living in a foreign nation.

It's not about being Britisweet's a connection to our history. For all legitimate purposes Britain has zero power or influence over Canada. I support the symbolic connection to our former homeland. It's part of what makes us unique as Canadians.
