New downtown casino to open this spring CJOB's Richard Cloutier reporting 1/22/2013 A new downtown casino will open this spring on the second floor of cityplace. The casino is owned by True North Sports and Entertainment but operated by Manitoba Lotteries. The 5,000 square foot gaming centre will be located adjacent to a new sports bar. It will have full liquor service, 140 VLT's, two poker and four black jack tables. Manitoba Lotteries will hire 40 staff the lcoation. While the VLTs were part of the deal to bring the Jets back to Winnipeg - poker and black jack evolved as part of the deal. It's not known how much money the casino will generate. www.cjob.com/news/winnipeg/story.aspx?ID=1868982

If it will help the Jets be competative and win Stanley Cup Championships then I'm all for it.

So people can go and gamble on their lunch hours. Yikes. Then again I suppose they were already doing that at the Tavern. Wonder how much business Tavern will lose to this.

Tavern is in a great location with a great atmosphere. 4Play didn't hurt it. Neither will this place.

5,000 sq. ft. 2 poker 4 blackjack tables? Way to think small once again Winnipeg. I hope there's room and laws to allow for expansion.

Pretty sure someone spoke to this two years ago I do remember info about a TN casino coinciding with a temporary meter reading of 100%.

I really wish they'd put a proper sports book in there. It'd be a one-of-a-kind in Canada if I'm not mistaken. Offer up some online action and you're good to go.

I remember the Casino was verified, don't recall Shark Club actually being confirmed. One would think that TN would want to make something soley their own, not partnering up with a franchise.

I can't stand the people crying online about this. But what about the poor gambling addicts. Give me a break. Some people are alcoholics too so I guess we should ban bars from the city.
This is great and something that is long overdue for downtown. A shame its so small. But its a good start and will be good for True North.
