Winnipeg's whiteout was more organic. The Jets didn't have to place white shirts on all seats. I laughed when I saw that in Phoenix - it worked for the first game but fans couldn't sustain it (i.e. wear their own white shirts to games). Maybe they have too many fans for the visiting team? Heh heh.

^^Exactly!
When you have to place white t-shirts on the seats it's not a true whiteout!

It's called a giveaway. Penguins held Whiteouts where local business supplied the shirts. Fry's supplied the white shirts for Coyotes, as they did the orange shirts for Suns playoffs. The Yote fans who truly follow the team were not hot on more Whiteouts. They have been bad luck the last couple of years. We've lost 6 of 7. Those are not Red Wings fans: many of them came in their white jerseys. They are fans like me who wanted to ruin the bad luck but failed.
Yes, there are regular Coyotes fans who have hung with the team during these sad , ownerless, poorly supported years. Wife and I are STHs who have missed only 3 games in last three years.
I hope our new owner, and yes there will be one, tells marketing Dept to retire the White.
And now that I have been found out on these boards, I await my banning.
Ciao. -TODD

Ciao. -TODD Aha - Finally found you out! Yes we do ban when it's merited, but not because people tell us what we already know, that the yotes are sad, ownerless and poorly supported. It sounds like you're doing you're part so we can't really hold that against you.

Todd, I find you perspective interesting. I never understood why Phoenix tried to adopt the whiteout, but it was worth a try out of the gates to get fans revved up. We had giveaways in Winnipeg, too, around the whiteout (charge of the white brigade, good guys wear white, etc.). And yes, when the Canadiens came to town, there were too many Habs fans in the crowd. But, in the playoffs, it was all white.
I can understand why Phoenix fans would like to drop the whiteout. I hope all the stats and traditions are ceremoniously handed over in October and then Phoenix can adopt their own traditions or build on ones you have.

With all the calls for the demise of the Yotes the last few years, isn't it better that we have a new NHL rivalry to enjoy (especially if these new ownership attempts actually work out)? I'll be there, as I'm there every game night, wearing one of my white jerseys only because it came up in rotation; not because of some dull marketing ploy.
I enjoy a full, loud, colorful house. White is just so bland; and silly when your team is wearing home red.
See some of you at our home opener! Section 119 row G, baby! NHL hockey!

I know this isnt what you want to hear Todd, but no sorry, I don't think its better to have a rivalry with an unsupported non hockey market team then have a non-rivalry with a fully supported traditional hockey market.
I say this as a coyote fan from 1997 to about 3 months ago. Ok to be fair, I gave up on them a year ago as a fan, but still watched the standings. I just don't feel the circumstances allow for the yotes to succeed in Arizona. A small part of me hopes they get an owner, but my gut says unless glendale ponies up more money, they won't continue.
Plus, if they move to Quebec, that will be a good rivalry too.

Those will be people who actually like the Jets, but are protesting the new crest... #whatever LOL I was thinking the exact same thing. I mean it would defy logic to wear the Coyote home jerseys or anything red, since all the Wings fans were wearing Red Wing shirts or jerseys. Bad luck or not, by not wearing white, it gives the impression that the fan would be rooting for the Wings. This would be no different than if I were to go to Calgary-Vancouver game in a sea of red, and wear a blue and green sweater and claim that I am a Flames fan. People would never buy it.
