Funny you sound like the other NHL markets when they spoke about Winnipeg not being able to support a team Thunder Bay has never had a team that could bring the excitement that s Jets affiliate would bring. I agree, and with a new arena I have no doubt Thunder Bay would support a Jets affiliated team. However, it's the ripping the team out of St John's part that seems hard to believe. I question that as well but why did Chipman only extend the agreement with St Johns short term? I have just as many questions as all of you but my source is very confident. One question I have is do they test a WHL team in MTS Center and then move the Ice Caps to Winnipeg & the WHL to TBay. Pure speculation and guessing on my part.

I could see them moving the Ice Caps to Thunder Bay purely for the reason that its closer geographically. However, I would think it pretty harsh on St. Johns. Maybe we affiliate and relocate another team to Thunder Bay, while the Ice Caps remain in St. Johns and affiliate with another organization?
Would be nice if we had a WHL team too.

Yeah, I don't think there are a lot of Jets fans in St.Johns...probably still mostly Habs and Leafs, but I'd still hate to see the Jets pull the rug out from under the Ice Caps fans. By all accounts, support has been terrific.

I think they're overthinking this.

Thunder Bay is not big enough of a hockey market to support the AHL.

This is a complete joke. Would be a bad business move to rip the team away from the city after a meager 4 years. It happened with them when they were Toronto's farm team. True North wouldn't want to do that after all they've been through with the Jets. It's bad karma waiting to happen.

I don't like the idea either, but without knowing what's going on in the background I won't be too quick to place blame.

True North also has the habit of waiting to the last minute to make its deals....

I've been telling you guys this for years. That has been True Norths plan all along since day one. Argue all you want, shoot Thunder Bay down just like many shot down Winnipeg's ability to support the NHL Living in Thunder Bay all I can say is I can't wait for the day! It's still aways off, they haven't even decided how the new arena is being funded. I have a contact who is very tied to the NHL world and he told me this tidbit when Winnipeg got the Jets. He said St Johns was a temporary situation IF Thunder Bay built a new arena. I rarely see this guy and just happened to see him last night and he said that's still the plan. Our mayor was working at Tim's last year for some promotion and I asked him, he said yes that's the plan. My contact also told me about True Norths plan to buy a WHL team, they actually had a tentative deal done which fell through and yet again nobody believed me until months later the story came out in the papers.

I think the more likely situation if there is a change with the farm team is St. John's keeps the team and the Jets swap with someone else's.

LT, you think the greater Thunder Bay area can support an AHL team? What is the highest level of hockey ever played in hockey? OHL?

Nothing will happen unless a team relocates and is a better option and even that's a stretch.
