Won't happen. This is all wishful thinking. The county council will outright give in to the Panthers demands or most of them. At best they will demand the team stays since they have a lease but not give them any more money. Judging by past actions and comments in the article above these are the type of people who buy the "major league" theory.

They have a thread on this on HF boards going on right now. The idea you have is a good one and one I thought of in the past and I've had trouble to be honest with you coming up with a response against it other than having a gut feeling it won't work. So I'm going to cheat and use someone elses post from HF boards since they answered it so well.
Broward is hoping to make its money from activity generated AROUND the arena not just in the arena. So they need more people going through the turnstiles. So while the arena may make more money on 20 concerts because they can charge fees, jack up parking, etc. The county may prefer having 41 games because the total number of people that are converging on the arena and going to restaurants etc would still be higher.

Unfortunately the NHL has convinced these places that these teams bring in the business. These sunbelt small towns are rubber stamps to any millionaire investing in their town.
Panthers might not get 20 million but they may get an extra 5 or 6 a year and that was worth the begging.
This team should be gone. Circumstances keep them an absolute disgrace and the nhl is fine with having the empty arena and revenue stealing.

I dont see another relocation in the NHL UNLESS the coyotes hit the dirt with these fake owners in glendale. ITs going to expansion to quebec, Las vegas isnt a real idea.

^^^ It's not the owners who will decide if the Coyotes leave. The entire thing comes down to if the city goes bankrupt or not. If not the Coyotes will always stay because the city will always be willing to pay up. The city will cut every service they can down to bear bone levels to avoid bankruptcy and still have enough left to "save Westgate"

Bettman gives the 2016 draft to Florida. Isn't it nice how Bettman rewards failure. Total joke this will continue until the little SOB retires.

Actually, you want to talk about a wicked road trip, that would be fantastic. Spend some time in the sun and beach, play some golf if that's your thing, then hit the draft floor to take it all in. If I didn't have young kids at home I'd be all over that! (I've gotta save my marriage/good husband capital for other things)

The NHL doesn't want to leave new buildings 2. Places like Glendale and likely Sunrise will cover loses 3. I don't think it's just Bettman that is convinced this will work someday. I think there are enough owners who believe if you give it enough time the NHL will "become like the other sports" a big TV deal in the US will come and franchise values/revenues will sky rocket.

It's basically extortion to benefit the owners. They eye the lucrative real estate the whole time. They can threaten to relocate the team and leave a rarely used arena with no development around it or the county can pony up, keep the team and get a major development that generates tourism and taxes.

They make too much $$$ from Canada to be surpassed by something else. MLS will continue to sign short tv deals increasing in value. Soccer in the united States is growing in popularity, building stadiums and bringing in investors

I agree with you on MLS(the future for MLS is bright given the way immigration is going) but I think your timeline is a little aggressive. The new MLS TV deal starting in 2015 will likely be worth 70M per year up from the current 27M per year. www.philly.com/philly/blogs/thegoalkeeper/NBC-to-lose-MLS-rights-in-2015-ESPN-Fox-likely-to-share-new-deal.htmlNHL gets 200M a year in the US on the TV deal. The biggest problem with catching NHL is the Canadian TV deal is 436M per year plus local TV rights in Canada are exploding. The Montreal Canadians new TV deal is rumored to be 68M per year. Toronto will probably get more than that since it's a bigger market. No MLS team will see anything like that for a LONG time. If you took out the Canadian teams from the NHL and all Canadian revenue MLS might have a shot to catch NHL in a few decades.

Even better than the Coyotes promotion of getting two free tickets to a Yotes game after buying a 24 of Bud for 15 dollars, we have this in Florida:
Suppose you did not win the lottery, and I refer not to the genetic lottery, which the two Florida Panthers fans above failed to win, clearly, but the actual Florida Lottery.
Normally, that's sort of where your journey with those lottery tickets ends. You buy a scratch ticket. You scratch it. If you do not win, you throw the ticket away. It has no further value.
But not so fast! Just because your ticket is a losing ticket doesn't mean it can't still be a winning ticket! Why, in the world of Florida hockey, that bad boy is currency.
The Florida Panthers will accept $10 worth of used scratch-off tickets for in exchange for actual hockey tickets. From the Panthers' fan zone:
Fans who submit $10 or more of non-winning Florida Lottery Scratch-Off Ticket(s) at the BB&T Center Box Office will receive an upper level end zone ticket (valued at $20) for a Tuesday or Thursday regular season home game. Fans can redeem their game tickets at the BB&T Center Box Office from Monday-Friday 9am – 5pm or Day of Game. Game tickets will be valid only for Tuesday or Thursday games. Promotion ends on Mar. 29 game vs. Canadiens. Again, that's non-winning. The Florida Panthers don't want your money. They want your trash.
In other words, as the first official rule of the promotion states, "no purchase necessary." You can basically get Florida Panthers tickets for pieces of scrap paper now. No word on whether they will also take buttons, feathers, shoelaces, hugs, or cut-up of bits of sponge.
