Now, let's just see how many teams the league will actually "net".
With the crap we see in FL and AZ, I'd suggest we could see 4 new teams, but in a league of 32.
2014/15 - The official return of the "White Out"!!

Interesting that the earliest expansion will take place is for 2017-18. So No money for Icefrauds when they lose the lawsuit and have to sell next year.

I'm guessing they'll add two teams and relocate one.

I'm guessing they'll add two teams and relocate one. So you are saying expand to Vegas and move Phoenix to Seattle to give 8 teams in the Pacific. Expand to second Toronto area team that will be the eighth team in the Central. Which leaves Quebec out unless Florida also moves to Quebec.

^ Unless they move the Coyotes to Portland who already have an arena and an owner in place. Then expand to Seattle and Vegas. Would anyone be surprised if this happened?

Portland loves junior hockey and won't want to mess with it. Also to close to Seattle. The Pacific North West will only get 1 team either through location or expansion.

There was a time not too long ago that we would have been excited when this was announced!

Quebec has a better chance of landing a team than a group that wants to land a team in the Toronto area. In Quebec, they have a wealthy ownership group, an arena, and most importantly, no team that would block the move, due to territorial issues.

There was a time not too long ago that we would have been excited when this was announced! If the $500mm+ Bettman wants for teams is what they go with, there's no chance TNSE would be ponying up.

Columbus is very close to Pittsburgh and fought hard to move East. They will not accept going back to a West time zone with games starting at 10:30 at night from the Pacific Division. By the way the Islanders are not changing the name of the team.

Just in case you were wondering. Each team would get $33,333,333.33 if they expand by 2 teams.

Columbus will have to move back to the West, to balance the Conferences. Illitch and the Red Wings have too much pull, and fought hard to be in the east, so Columbus is the odd team out, if Phoenix relocates to Quebec. I don't think the Islanders will change their name immediately, but I think it will happen sooner or later. It makes sense, as Brooklyn has 2,500,000 people to draw from, and they most likel would like to be distinct from the more popular Rangers. I will bet you a dollar per year. In 2018-19, they will be called "Brooklyn."
