I actually still really like Trouba as a player, but I'm also really hoping the Bruins don't chicken out on that offer! Perfect all around win for the Jets. Get to protect more forwards for the expansion draft in addition to protecting Myers and Buff (and unfortunately Enstrom), AND get 4 first rounders. Can't get much better than that under the circumstances!

All these reports seem to support the rumours about the Jets and Trouba growing distant. If the Jets and Bruins can strike a deal, it could prevent a possible bidding war for Trouba which could drive up the price.

If we don't get the offer sheet, he signs his bridge or holds out which damages his rep. We've seen Matta, Riley and now Jones, all sign for half of what he thinks he's worth. He'll have to sign his bridge and prove himself. Seems that simple. Posted w/ Grumpz D-vice

I don't think matching the offer is the way to go here. It is a big overpayment of the kid and we still have a lot more guys to sign. Take the picks or trade him before the free agency period starts.

I'm sure when Chevy said they'd match any offer sheets, he was assuming they'd be for a small to moderate over pay, but 7 mil? 4 1sts?
I can't think of a scenario where this is matched. Take a prospect and a first, and go after a dman 2 different times, save money and have 2 picks left.
This isn't being bullied. If a dome rich guy knocks on my door and offers me 150 k more for my house than its worth, see ya. I don't care if I have to roll the dice on finding a new place.

I'm firmly in the 'take the picks and run' camp but I'll give 3:1 odds that this offer sheet doesn't happen. It's a move that's being almost universally panned by fans of all stripes.
Well, Jets fans are supportive but only because we make out like bandits. A few Bruins fans are posting some "what the h*ll, let's go for it" sentiments on HFBruins but the crowd by and large thinks this is a moronic move by Sweeney. I don't think I've seen a single post by a non-Bruins/Jets fan that says this is a good idea.

And I'm pleased to see that Jets fans aren't blinded by loyalty to one of their more popular players nor are they motivated by some macho ego-driven 'we'll show them who has the money to match' nonsense.
The wisdom of the Godfather is most appropriate here. Never get angry. It's only business. And among reasonable men matters of business can always be resolved.

Boston put Dennis Siedenberg on waivers for buy purposes.... That frees up 2.8M for them this year and leaves them short a top-4 d-man.... If not Trouba they need a D-man badly

There is a reason the Jets drafted three dmen in a row in this draft -18, 79 and 97th.

There is a reason the Jets drafted three dmen in a row in this draft -18, 79 and 97th. Yeah it's that we have very little depth on D in the minors and junior ranks and a surplus of forwards. It would be the same if Trouba is here or not. None of them would replace Trouba this year anyway.

I'm definitely in the camp of take the picks if this offer does happen. The part I don't like is that it's pretty much a form of tampering. If the Jets were anywhere near close to signing Trouba, now Trouba's agent gets wind of this possible inflated offer?? How is that not tampering?
I abut ally really like Paul Wiecek thoughts about having the Jets trade Trouba to any of the teams in Boston's division. We could get a top 6 forward, relieving the Jets of having to protect Trouba in the expansion draft and at the same time screwing Boston over! Love that idea.

4 1sts is nice but not of its a playoff team.....
4 picks in the 20s for trouba would suck

Montreal, Islanders and Colorado are all interested. Maybe a trade coming?
