the nfl also had a major screw up not building stadiums when they were cheaper in the mid 2000s. Another failing of goodell.

Now the Chargers are backing away from the logo due to negative backlash. LOL Liz Habib @lizhabib 2h2 hours ago The @chargers told me this is NOT their new logo- you won't see it on helmets or uniforms... it was for marketing purposes today. Glad to hear that. It would be a shame for them to change their uniforms as they are one of the best looking in the NFL. Hopefully they'll leave them as is like the Colts did upon the move from Baltimore to Indianapolis.

If you look at how many billions each stadium now costs(1.2B minimum) it wouldn't pay off if you outright 100% privately financed every stadium in smaller markets. They could afford it but at that point you'd be better off $$$ wise having your teams stay in the old dump. But you bring good point. What should be done is the G3 fund should be increased at least. $200M is a joke for what these stadiums cost and is BADLY outdated. If it was say $400M maybe you'd have a better shot of passing a vote in San Diego with $200M less in public money. I know they don't want to set the precedent of privately funding smaller market stadiums but the could have used the excuse of super bowls in San Diego and said it will NEVER happen again. Or come up with the guise of the extra $$$ being money for the Rams invading Spanos "territory" even though LA is not wasn't his territory. With the backlash from this and the fact this is the 1st time the receiving city didn't want the team a one time exception should have been made. The public funding game could have been kept going even with a 1 time exception. Just absolute shortsightedness. right and you could justify it by making a major college football venue too., indoors it can be final 4, wrestlemania. it was short sighted to leave san diego. Oakland i get. Ya, but the problem is a roof is an extra $200M. Last proposal had a roof. You'd get a final 4 with a roof but wrestlemania can be held at the old Clippers arena, Aztec's aren't a major program I don't think(don't follow college). I would have went with a simple 63,000 seat stadium, no roof at Mission Valley. Dean choose a roof and downtown along with a convention center add on. I don't mind leaving Oakland since I want the A's to get the land and I don't want the minor league stadium because as soon as Davis dies the new owner would say it sucks and he wants a new one but keep in mind Oakland is the new Brooklyn and the Raiders were born in Oakland. I like Vegas but the NFL could regret leaving Oakland too.

the nfl also had a major screw up not building stadiums when they were cheaper in the mid 2000s. Another failing of goodell. In fairness the Chargers did try back then too. They've been trying for 15 years. The city screwed this up big time too. There was a proposal I'd say in 2005 if I remember right where they would give the land around Qualcomm for development but Mark Aguire(I forget his city roll) was going to sue. Aguire played a big part in them leaving too. Excellent point on stadiums becoming too expensive for most cities other than MASSIVE markets(NY, Dallas, LA). The current stadiums better last forever with only renovations or else you will have only a few big city teams, no excellent middle/lower 2/3rds markets. At the bottom will be dying rust belts who would be dumb enough to bankrupt themselves in a futile attempt to recapture their past glories. So what you'll have is a few big markets and a bunch of dead markets with nice stadiums that will be empty. LOL And by dying rustbelts I mean round 3 for St. Louis, Buffalo, Rochester, Youngstown etc....

Chargers is San Diego.

Fans boo Chargers logo, Jeff Cumberland at Lakers-Clippers gameThe Chargers' first public presentation in their new city didn't go over so well Saturday. During their game with the Lakers, the Clippers showed the new Los Angeles Chargers logo on the video screen and the Staples Center crowd promptly booed. After a few seconds, the screen cut to Chargers tight end Jeff Cumberland, who briefly waved but then was booed. Chargers CEO and president Dean Spanos announced Thursday that the team would move to Los Angeles after 56 seasons in San Diego. The team will play home games the next two seasons at the 30,000-seat StubHub Center in Carson, California. Spanos, his wife, Susie, and two sons, John and AG, were in attendance at Saturday's NBA game. Dean Spanos said he had received a warm reception in Los Angeles. "It really is great to be here," Spanos told Fox Sports Prime Ticket during an in-game interview. "Everybody's been so nice in welcoming me, my family, the Chargers. We're really looking forward to this season." Following a 113-97 victory over the Lakers, Clippers coach Doc Rivers was asked if he had any advice for the Chargers as they deal with a polarizing reception in Los Angeles, which welcomed back the Rams last year. "Well, win," Rivers said. "I don't think there's a [No.] 1 or 2 team yet. I think that the first team that wins will be the first team that wins, if you know what I mean. That would be my only advice. It's good to have them here. You never want anybody to leave a city, but this is a big city, and I think we can handle it. "There's enough room for two basketball teams," Rivers continued. "We have a lot of Clippers fans, and there's a lot of Lakers fans. There are two soccer teams. There are two football teams. I guess there are two baseball teams, even though they're not both in L.A. There's enough room. So it'll be great. We have to something to do on all weekends. That's nice." www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18475653/los-angeles-chargers-jeff-cumberland-booed-los-angeles-lakers-la-clippers-game

Not a word about the hockey team(s)? Lol Maybe it's because the Ducks don't use Los Angeles in their name so they excluded them when mentioning the other teams.

Not a word about the hockey team(s)? Lol LOL That's because while the Ducks not the Coyotes/Panthers they aren't exactly the strongest NHL team financially. The baseball teams and NBA teams are elite financially/attendance/local TV deal wise/Forbes ranking wise. The Kings got one of the top local NHL tv deals, are a top 10 forbes team and sell out. The Ducks don't sell out, they were supposed to get a big local TV deal and they never announced/leaked what they got as their new deal so I assume it isn't all that great. Attendance wise the Ducks have only finished above league average attendance in 5 of 22 seasons, haven't beat the league average since 1997-98 season and only sold out 2 seasons in their history.

This is worst than anything the NHL has done and that's saying something. We all make fun of the Coyotes and Panthers but they are not hated in their local markets. No one cares for them yes and they should be moved but at least for example a Shane Doan can go to a Diamondbacks game and throw out the 1st pitch without being booed/hissed at. The crowd may not know who he is, or even that they have a hockey team but they Coyotes aren't hated like this.
I've heard this theory on message boards and I hope it's true. The Chargers may go back in a year or 2 if San Diego can still get a stadium. Mark Davis was going to exercise the LA option if Spanos passed and Spanos couldn't risk it. Part of the reason for Davis doing this is out of spite. Remember if Carson would have won last year the Chargers were prepared to launch a vicious media campaign about the Raiders fans being all gang members(which is true). As it was in the NFL focus groups last year not a single fortune 1000 company would have supported the Raiders. Imagine trying to change that with a Fabani run media campaign. The Chargers idea was with the Raiders in LA corporate LA/all non gang members would be 100% forced to support the them by default. So Davis wasn't going to do Spanos any favors and pass and say I 100% guarantee you I'm going to Vegas.
A couple weeks ago Bongsignore thought the Chargers were staying. He had the best idea saying Chargers in San Diego, Rams in LA, Raiders go to Vegas but become the defacto 2nd LA team on TV. A couple times at the end of this year the Rams were asked for permission to televise Raider games the same time as their games and they granted it. The idea would be that would become permanent. That way CBS gets an AFC LA team. The NFL avoids the embarrassment of the gang fights, no corporate support if the Raiders were in LA but yet you tap the gang members TV wise. I really think this was the best way to do LA.

Honestly the only way Spanos goes back is if they offer a stadium but imo the only chance san diego has is he fails so hard in LA and sells the team in shame.
