So we see Maurice put him on the left side for a period or so with Scheif and Wheels in the Islanders game. Its a start i guess? I think Maurice is feeling the pressure this year.

Of course he is feeling the heat. We are 1 and 2, could be 0-3, and we have let in 14 goals in 3 games. We have now missed 5 of our starting 6 defense after losing 3 on top of that in the off season and our starting goalie has been terrible. If you think that is any Maurice’s fault your kidding yourself and unless this team loses 15 in a row and loses the room he isn’t going anywhere.

His job is to win games. Other than Buff not showing, Maurice knew who would or wouldn't sign. He can't play head games now with his talented players. They have the upper hand finally. Laine looks good on the top line when there. Not a one trick pony anymore. Tied (i believe) in assists for the team lead. Looked great against pitts.

One might be tempted with all the shots Jets faced in the third to pull your hair out about crumbling in the third but in point of fact whatever combination Maurice was sending out there against the Pens the Pens were limited to only 2 high scoring danger chances - of course the Jets had zero (in the third). But the point is the Jets kept most of the shots on the outside.

You can have the top 5 coaches in the world all behind the bench of Ottawa. They ain’t making the playoffs! You think Ottawa’s coach knew going into the season what he had for a team and should be able to find a way to get them into the playoffs? If you do, your nuts! Laine has a great game. Let’s see if he can do it on a regular basis

Laine just didn't 'become' what you're seeing this season. He tanked his game last year which the two previous years showed him as a plus hockey player and not as a detriment to his team because he was pouting and unhappy. He got a two year bridge deal and having a nice raise and further bump his second year I'm sure the message is clear - no more pouting and tanking because the payday will be considerably more than the second year of that bridge when the contract is up.
I'm sure he's happy to be with Scheif and Wheels and it shows the guy is also a set up man as he has a great touch. But the fact of the matter even playing with a grunt like Copp he and Connor were carrying the line.
