Doubt it. I would bet that neither Chevy nor the prima donna players want him back. Honesty does not go unpunished. Well I would imagine after a quick rethink of say, 3 days and a discussion with Mrs. Bones, Rick says Hasta La Vista Jets. If not, he should. The boys, and they are boys after their recent display of petulance, won't even look or listen to him. He will be ostracized, tuned out and ignored. Soooo lucky for the Jets another well traveled coach will be available! Everyone loves Darryl Sutter, right? He will perk up the team and have them performing at the level they are capable of. And Torts will be his Ass't Coach. Good times. Yes! A double dose of PIA to these guys!

In the end, coaches are judged on their win-loss records and reputation, and although the Jet record under his guidance is mediocre, his reputation can only be harmed by how he handles this no-win situation. He has a clear signal from Cheveldayoff that the next season will be pretty much the same as the past one in terms of on-ice personnel and Bowness is expected to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Thing is if he quits he likely wouldn't get that last year salary. Maybe his honesty was an invitation for the Jets to axe him but they didn't bite so he could have his severance salary and leave. No immediate pressure to sign somewhere else. So unless he gets an "opportunity" somewhere else I don't think quiting is an option. What Bones did made him popular here. As the fans have been begging for some brutal honesty instead of stupid platitudes. Regardless of how the season goes don't dismiss the possibility he may be extended.

By any sane measure, Cheveldayoff has richly deserved to be fired, but here we are again, looking at yet another season of the same old. Other franchises have rebuilt or built more successful teams while the Jets have idled away, letting the internal problems persist. I would have thought that Bowness's sense of integrity would have required him to say adios, but here we are. Again. He has built a reputation as a good coach who was respected by fans, ownerships and players and I cannot see this ending well for him. IMO, he would have been far better off to have negotiated a golden parachute and left with his dignity intact. When he walked back his honest and accurate comments, he did himself no good at all.

Found it a little interesting that 3 of the top 5 longest tenured GMs in the NHL are in the Central Division.
David Poile with Nashville is miles ahead of the competition with just under 26 years at the helm of the Predators. Prior to this season, NSH had made the playoffs for 8 straight seasons and 15 out of the last 19 seasons. However, they only advanced past the 2nd round once when they made it to the Finals in 2016-17.
Up next is Doug Armstrong of St. Louis, who has been in charge of the Blues for just under 13 seasons. Prior to this season, STL made the playoff for 4 straight years, including their Cup victory in 2018-19 and have qualified for the playoffs in 10 of his 13 seasons.
In 3rd we find Kevin Cheveldayoff of Winnipeg, who is just about to finish his 12th season as the Jets' GM. Our team has made the playoffs 6 out of 12 seasons, with their best showing being a 3rd round loss in 2017-18.
Sitting in 4th is Karmo Kekalainen of Columbus and he has been the big guy for the Blue Jackets for 10.5 seasons. The Jackets have made the post-season in 5 out of Karmo's 10 full seasons, with the best finish being a 2nd round loss. Additionally, the team hasn't made the playoffs in 3 straight seasons, including absolutely awful years in 2020-21 and 2022-23.
To round out the top 5, we head back to the Central Division with Jim Nill of Dallas. With just over 10 seasons in place as the Stars' GM, his team has made the playoffs in 6 of 10 seasons, including 2 first round losses, 2 second round losses, a loss in the Cup Finals, and whatever happens this season (at least a 3rd round loss).
To be honest, first I really have to wonder why Kekalainen is still employed with the limited successes his squad's have had, but up next would definitely be Chevy. Then probably Poile.
*Just noticed that those 5 GMs are the only ones to have signed players to contracts worth more than a billion dollars, though the Capitals' & Bruins' GM are nearing that mark as well.**

When Jets II started Jets organization stated they wanted to pattern themselves like Nashville. Also better way to look at it Jets have only won three series.
