I am not as convinced that these two HAVE to off the team by camp. I believe getting rid of Wheeler was the the #1 thing to improve the room. Every team has players on expiring contracts, he does not have to be a distraction (although the PLD situation may have been). If 55 has any brains he would bring his 200 ft game all season (which would not hurt his offense) so he can maximize his next contract value. Nit saying he will , but he should and he has shown he can do it (granted, rarely). I believe Helle will just go about his business as per usual. I share you're thoughts on Helle. However my opinion is Scheif is as much of a dressing room disturbance as Wheeler was. His arrogance, lack of spine when needed to stand up for team mates and disrespect for the "system" make it imperative that he goes asap. He can hold his prayer meetings elsewhere. 55 Gone is my preference as well but I was suggesting that with Wheelchair out of the picture, 55 *may* conform more now. No past evidence of this, just a possibility.

It unfortunately coincides with his increased quotes regarding god guiding him and his association with Adam Oates. He hasn't the right mindset and his failures are accepted as just part of a grand plan. That makes it easier to shift the blame and not take responsibility for his actions or lack of. Prayer meetings and Scheif need to be removed from the dressing room.

I've clearly missed something what does Adam Oates have to do with anything? Oates promotes not putting yourself in harms way, stay healthy so you can make money. For a center this is about longetivity for Oates. Playing two-way hockey as a center requires two-way play which requires physicality in your end. A winger traditionally planted his @ss along the boards waiting for the outlet pass from the dman or the center who's job was to get possession of that puck and if necessary by strong physical play along your boards and provide that outlet pass to your winger. This is antithetical to Oates. And he wasn't a big guy as a center roughly 5'11" and well below 200lbs. Approx. 19 years in the NHL. He knew how to survive. But he also missed a lot of games through injury. So he knows as a center what you have to do to get longetivity. His student the last year is doing just that. Survive while maximizing his goal output. And you will note, contrary to most top centers his assist total this past season was now significantly proportionality lower than the goal total. This was contrary to every previous year he had with the Jets. Selfishness. As I stated previously he should have been traded after the 2021-22 season where he was -17 and expressing ambiguity about remaining with the Jets. Our emasculated GM let it ride for another season which put a further stamp on Scheifele's burning bridges and demonstrating a less than team mentality. It has now made him harder to outright trade.

Very easy to trade 55. It's what you get in return is the problem.

This offseason seems to have a higher than normal number of good players entering the final years of their contracts and the potential of walking away in free agency next year, with Winnipeg's Scheifele/Hellebuyck, Calgary's Lindholm/Hanifin, Toronto's Nylander/Matthews, and Carolina's Pesce being the main guys.
Historically, a flurry of trades in late August/September doesn't seem likely. In the 2021 offseason, NHL teams signed 20 players from Aug 10th to the end of the month (no trades). In September 2021, teams signed/extended another 30 players while there was 1 trade (Logan Brown + 4th from STL for Zach Sanford from OTT). In late August (10th to 31st) in 2022, NHL squads signed/extended 25 players (WPG had one, Gustafsson) and there was one trade (CGY traded Monahan + 1st to MTL for future considerations). For the month of September 2022, teams signed another 21 players and there was 1 more trade (Kulikov to ANA from MIN for future considerations).
That's three trades in the late offseason in the past two seasons and none of them involving significant players or salaries. Hopefully the quality of available players changes that pattern, but it's seeming more likely that teams will pretty much look like they are right now.
Which is scary to me as a Jets fan.....because while the math says there will be 16 Western Conference teams vying for the 8 playoff spots, reality actually makes it more of a fight between 12 franchises for the post-season. I can't see any of Anaheim, San Jose, Chicago, or Arizona making a 30 pt improvement over last seasons squads to challenge for a spot, so really Winnipeg can expect to be no farther than 4 places from the last wildcard spot all season. It's possible that Nashville could also join the bottom-dwellers, making it 11 teams battling for 8 spots.
If I had to rank the Western Conference teams, I guess I would put Vegas and Dallas in a top tier, as well-rounded teams. Next would be franchises that are talented but have some issues like Colorado (Landeskog LTIR), Edmonton (Defense/depth), and Los Angeles (Goaltending). I'll make the next tier a bit bigger and the top teams in it all have some talent, but also have a lot of issues. The cream of this group is Seattle and they might be included in the 2nd tier if it wasn't for the questions surrounding around their goaltending and whether last season's strong performance is something they can sustain. The Kraken are followed by the Minnesota Wild, whose dead cap issues have essentially kept them as the exact same squad as last season. And that leaves the 4 teams that could possibly be fighting for that final wildcard spot: Winnipeg, Calgary, St. Louis, & Vancouver. It's also possible that strong defense & goaltending keeps Nashville in this category for some or all of the season.
Taking Chevy's eternal optimism in his squad into consideration, all this could add up to a pretty dicey trade deadline situation.

Looks like Washington is shopping for a top 6 man. Might be someplace to send Scheif. I've heard Mantha is being dangled as trade bait but there doesn't seem to much else that stands out.

Boston has now lost its 2 top centres to retirements. This may increase the chance that they show more interest in acquiring Scheiffle. He certainly does not fit the mold of a stereotypical Bruin but there's not a lot available out there and Scheif is a 40 goal player. However, Boston does not have a whole lot to offer in the way of roster players or prospects. Something to watch in the coming days.

Our GM likely thinks he can get more leverage by the trade deadline. Should have done it last year when the whole team was falling backwards and by March 3 it was quite apparent if the team made the playoffs it was only to get some additional revenue but the team was in trouble.
My position though was after the 2021-22 season should have been the trade as it was obvious Scheifele was looking for greener pastures.
