I doubt this trade happens. Chevy knows Scheif's value and Wennberg and a pick isn't enough. Add Wright and send Schmidt then maybe. That being said I do agree that despite it being a loss for Winnipeg it does clear the elephant from the room. That in itself has value.

While I would love to see the whole Scheifele thing done with, I'm just not so sure that the Jets need to settle for that little. Basically, Wennberg is a slight improvement on Lowry. Maybe equal to Andrew Copp. Someone who should be in the bottom 6 on a good team, but might slip into the 2nd line on a team with less top-end talent. Speaking of Copp, he was traded for Barron, a 1st (Lambert), a 2nd (Salomonsson, & a 5th (Milic) at the deadline. Do we really think Scheifele has less value than Copp? 55 is coming off one of his lower offensive outputs last season, but in a contract year, I expect that to return closer to a point per game. The guy will want to get paid next season and likely knows he has to produce if he wants a big final contract. I still think the trade deadline is when Winnipeg can get the most for Scheifele, assuming Chevy is willing to accept draft picks and very young prospects in return at that point. Agreedđź‘Ť.

Actually, despite his scoring touch, Scheifele's market value might be lower than Copp's was at the time of his trade, due to Scheifele's reluctance to play in the neutral and defensive zones and his pouting.

Just doing some research for an article looking at what point production NHL teams are getting from each of their lines on average. It is difficult to assign someone as a 1st liner solely based on stats & ice time because different teams deploy their forward units in vastly different ways. But giving it a shot.
Anyways, while looking at that, came across Wennberg's name in my review and remembered that trade discussion. His name popped up when I found that Wennberg was the worst producing forward in the NHL last year that played at least 18 minutes per game. He produced at a .463 pt/gm rate, which would be 38 pts for what I end up labeling 1st line minutes. Another player close to the bottom for 18 min+ players was former Jet Andrew Copp (.512 pts/gm or 42 pts in full yr). Winnipeg had three players with over 18 mins per game (Connor, Scheifele, & Dubois), with respective production rates of .976 (80 pts in full yr), .840 (69 pts), and .863 (71 pts).
Still have lots of work to do before I am ready to post the article, but thought I would share that info now since it won't be included in the finished product.

Decent article and I'm glad that Barlow, our "looks like a 30 year old but he's only 18" 2022 draft pick has signed up. Bright future ahead of him and a few of the other kids. I could say something negative regarding 55 but not today.

It scares me so much when Ehlers gets any type of minor tweak......neck spasms. Not sure I will draft him at my hockey pool but I am always tempted based on the upside. Nik needs to avoid the IB this season!

Looking better, but no major results in game 1 of the season, still a lot of work to do to get it up to where it should beđź‘Ť.
