Ford has played with adults - University for 4 years. He doesnt need to play with other adults re AHL. He's not coming from junior hockey. That's why he looks comfortable out there. So disagree about the AHL. AHL is pro hockey not college kids.

Ford has only played 8 regular season AHL games (4 pts) and 5 playoff games (0 pts), so spending time with the Moose won't be a bad thing.
Regardless of what happens, having waiver-exempt forwards like Ford, Lucius, & Lambert to call up is a good thing to have for the Jets.

So disagree about the AHL. AHL is pro hockey not college kids. Most of the guys in the AHL will never get out of that league nor will they be regular players in the NHL. University players are not 'kids'. They're adults. The average age of College hockey players is around 21-23. He belongs in the NHL as he's put his full 4 years in College hockey and he looks better than numerous players on the Jets including Appleton. Fluck draft and develop. That's BS propaganda as numerous players in this organization including the latest player (casualty) Harkins illustrates. Put him in and screw the conventions which have driven this team to three series wins in 11 years.

October 9th is when NHL teams have to trim down to a 23 man (maximum) roster and the Winnipeg Jet's decisions were just made a bit easier with it being announced that Ville Heinola officially is on IR. The Jets also sent Parker Ford down to the minors earlier, so that leaves the following players left on the team:
C: Scheifele, Perfetti, Lowry, Kupari, & Gustafsson LW: Connor, Ehlers, Iafallo, Barron, & Jonsson-Fjallby RW: Vilardi, Niederreiter, Appleton, & Namestnikov
LD: Morrissey, Samberg, Dillon, Stanley, Chisholm, & Capobianco RD: Pionk, DeMelo, & Schmidt
G: Hellebuyck, Brossoit, & Delia
With a total of 26 players, Chevy & co would need to send 3 players through waivers if it wasn't for Capobianco's injury. His status hasn't exactly been made clear, but there is a possibility that he could also join Heinola on IR. If that is the case, then the team will have to decide one player to join goaltender Delia in being sent to the minors.
IllegalCurve's writer seems to be leaning towards speedy AJF being the odd man out, but I think real consideration also has to be given to Chisholm too. Yesterday I noticed, Leon Gawanke cleared waivers and was sent to the Sharks' AHL team. That provides an example of a very similar player to Chisholm passing safely through waivers, with Gawanke having the advantage of being a more coveted right hander.
With a forward like Harkins already being claimed on waivers and AJF signed to a cheap 2 yr contract (something cap space strapped teams are looking for), would he be more of a risk to be taken by another NHL team? I guess it will come down to how Winnipeg's staff feels about the depth at forward and defense behind those two options. If you want my opinion on that, then I would say we have NHL call up options at forward (Lucius, Malott, Ford, Lambert, etc) but I can't really think of anyone on defense. So maybe it would be best to risk AJF?
What would be your call?

It’s either AJF, or, Gus the Bus, whom would you rather have on your roster between these 2? Actually, after thinking a little further on this, it would have to be risking AJF on waivers. Gus is a Center, we need him.

I Think AJF if claimed on waivers will do really well on a coaching system not like Bones, which pushes defense but causes lack of goal scoring? Bones idea of a team is 5 Larry Robinsons on the ice at the same time?

Winnipeg put Delia, Capobianco, and Jonsson-Fjallby on waivers today to get to the maximum of 23 players. That means Stanley and Chisholm are the 7th and 8th defenders, while Gustafsson is the lone extra forward.

The Jets probable lineup for opening day:
Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi Niederreiter-Perfetti-Ehlers Iafallo-Lowry-Appleton Barron-Kupari-Namestnikov
Extra: Gustafsson
Morrissey-DeMelo Samberg-Pionk Dillon-Schmidt
Extra: Stanley-Chisholm
Hellebuyck Brossoit That's the best bottom 6 we have seen in years. There should be some better ability to score there so hopefully a more balanced ice time distribution. The D is still a bit iffy but hopefully better team defensive play can support that. I'm hoping that with bringing back Bros they will take 15 extra games off Helly to keep him fresher. All in all I'm excited to see what this team can do.

That means Stanley and Chisholm are the 7th and 8th defenders, while Gustafsson is the lone extra forward. Given the options they would have been considering for waiving, I think those are the logical choices...I actually like both of these players but I see them being least likely to be picked off waivers so maybe helps to maintain some 4th line and defense depth. Especially need the depth on defense where we have more bruisees than bruisers.
