There seems to be a distinct lack of optimism or excitement about the Jets this time around. Barring a major signing or trade and with a rookie head coach who has no great track record, the Jets look to be a bubble team at best.

Barring a major signing or trade and with a rookie head coach who has no great track record, the Jets look to be a bubble team at best. I won't disagree with your assessment of where the Jets may end up this season, heck they may even end worse than that if they can't replicate the strong team defensive play of last season. That doesn't mean that I'm not looking forward to the puck drop though. When you think about it, Winnipeg is not that much different from the roster that played 59% of the games last season ( which included the time when the Jets were playing at their best) since Monahan & Toffoli joined the team late. That squad went 30-13-5 before Chevy made the early trade for Monahan, even though they were missing a key player ( Connor, Vilardi) for much of that time. Barring the loss of Brossoit, Dillon, & Schmidt, the roster is the same as the Jets team that started last year's regular season. Admittedly, Kahkonen/Comrie are a step down from Bross and a full season of Miller can't replace all of what Dillon brought, but Heinola should be a step up from Nate. How much of a step down overall is that really - enough to go from 2nd to 8th?? So if Winnipeg can come even close to last season's blue collar performance, the GM can try to add parts near the deadline to make them hopefully perform better in the playoffs. Even if they stink it up this season I won't be terribly disappointed, as long as the kids ( Heinola, Perfetti, & Lambert) are given a solid chance to gain experience at the NHL level. If they do, then that will pay dividends the following season when they might get further reinforcements out of the Salomonsson, Lucius, Chibrikov, Ford, Lundmark, & Barlow pool while shedding some of the deader weight ( Pionk, Appleton, etc - actually the Jets only have 9 NHLers signed for 2025-26 at this point, so the potential for a lot of turnover). A top 10 draft pick to try and find a future #1 RHD or C wouldn't be the end of the world too, as well as whatever the team can get from selling spare parts at the deadline. My hockey addiction is more out of hand than most fans, so I'm also very excited about watching the development of players in the minors. Guess I'm either easy to please or have taken a longer-term view on the upcoming season.

Didn't the Jets win more without Connor?

Frank Seravelli reported that the Jets and Hurricanes were working on a deal that would be Perfetti, Rutger and a draft pick for Nevas and other assets but Necas would not agree to a long term deal. Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun added this about the Perfetti trade rumour: “Still seeing that the #NHLJets offered Perfetti to Carolina. This didn’t happen. Carolina wanted Perfetti in a possible trade. The Jets didn’t want to trade him. And ultimately, any deal for Martin Necas wasn’t going to happen as he wasn’t going to sign long-term in Winnipeg.”

Kyle Connor and Nic Elhers are two half hockey players, if that on Ehlers part.
Neither are tough, disappear in the corners and can't save themselves in an asskicking event or anyone else taking one.......
Trade them both for a Dman and a helper,
Then replace those two softies with Laine who is similar to better in scoring when he's firing, Laine is also bigger and can tussle and grind.
This team needs a shakeup, its the same old Chipman Gentlemens Hockey Club year after year, nothing is ever offensive about this team......very boring........

You are being too harsh on the 2 players that you are judging, maybe just maybe those 2 players that you speak of have not been put into their best positions to help the Jets succeed, I believe that is so. And, BTW, Laine is not the answer to making the Jets better, as BOJA has pointed out, Patty sucks defensively and is a one trick pony. Laine is not the answer to the Jets woes, he’s not a 200 foot NHLER, he’s more of a specialist, no room for him on the Jets. Just my thoughts and opinions. I’ve been wrong before, wouldn’t surprise myself if I was wrong again, however, I don’t believe that I am wrong on Laine, he needs to go to a Team that won’t depend on him being a 200 foot game player. Again, just my thoughts and opinions. I respect all of your thoughts and opinions, I get where you are coming from, I unfortunately disagree with you, no hard feelings, it’s just where I’m coming from based on my perspective, no different than yourself having your own perspective👍. Cheers, 2b9😉😃👍

I ain't mad at chya.....
I just think those 2 are soft and lack size, I agree Laine isn't a defensive wonder,
But he is what he is and we all knew / know that, however I feel he brings more value than guys that breakdown frequently adn shy away from bigger players.
On another note about Laine going around lately, people saying he wanted to leave etc....
If I recall there was a fairly consistent rumour that a main veteran bullied him along with another player on the team at the time,
Being a young player at the time pretty far from home, who was really confident in himself in his first few years,
I'd probably look at my options too if this clearly wasnt going to be resolved.
Maybe the effects of that continued on after he left and is why his career is where he is today,
and maybe, coming home is the cure now that the team has mostly turned over.........maybe
Cheers & Jeers lol

I'd move Ehlers because his playoff numbers are atrocious. Connor is still somewhat visible. Upgrade your RD to someone bigger and I think we'll see a better playoff team.

It is always about balance - some speed, skill and some toughness - in your lineup overall. Carolina is an example of a team with a lot of great attributes BUT they never can score enough. Scorers are highly regarded.

I know there has been some excitement chatter on Elias Sallmonnson , however when I look at his terrible point stats and Tiny Heiny 6.0 ft 172 pounds stats I say lets go to commercial break? Forget Him unless there is something in this Tiny man we are not seeing?

Forget Him unless there is something in this Tiny man we are not seeing? I'm willing to bet you've seen a total of zero minutes of him play hockey. You must of turned the TV off every time that Tiny 6ft, 180lb Wayne Gretzky came on the ice as well I'm sure.
