The Jets could not clear the shooting lanes in front of the net during the playoffs. They need personnel that can do that and make opposition players who try to pay a price. If you're not a large mean man, ( see Pionk Heinola, etc) then butt ends to the abdomen and kidneys boys. You ain't winning unless your dirty and mean.

ย ย I know there has been some excitement chatter on Eliasย Sallmonnson , however when I look at his terrible point stats and Tiny Heinyย 6.0 ft 172 pounds stats I say lets go to commercial break? Forget Him unless there is something in this Tiny man we are not seeing? I'm willing to bet you've seen a total of zero minutes of him play hockey. You must of turned the TV off everyone that Tiny 6ft, 180lb Wayne Gretzky came on the ice as well I'm sure. Love it, beauty on your part๐. Cheers, 2b9๐๐๐

The game has changed (devolved?) since the Gretzky era, he had the benefit of a couple of goons who would attack anyone who came within 6 feet of Gretzky and he was an all-time talent. Hard to equate the two situations, but yes, the Jets need to add some grit to their lineup.

Wow...the St Louis Blues are spicing things up in the NHL today.
They offer sheeted a couple of Oilers...Broberg is a two-year contract at $4,580,917 per year & Holloway is a two-year contract at $2,290,457 per year. The compensation for both would only be a 2nd & 3rd.
Edmonton has 7 days to match but would be $6,438,041 over the cap if they do (13 F/ 7D/ 2G).

Smart use of cap space and taking advantage of a team in cap tightness.

Yikes.....the Blue Jackets sent 26 yr old Laine AND a 2nd round pick to the Montreal Canadiens for 24 yr old defenseman Jordan Harris. No retention from Columbus.

This is the new start for Laine that he needs, good for him, I hope that he excels for the Canadiens, he deserves a new start, everyone deserves another chance no matter what the circumstances are, I believe that he will excel and recharge his career with Montreal. Obvious salary dump by CBJ. That should tell you something about Laine's current value. Not sure how the Jets could have cleared 8.7 million per year for two years to sign him. Perfetti is the most significant RFA that still needs more money and is very much part of the plan going forward. This puts pressure on the salary cap. The Jets would have needed CBJ to retain salary and a fair bit of it to even have a chance to make it work. A lot of things would have needed to happen for Laine, still in the Player Assistance Program, to get here. A bit of a risk for a player who has been routinely injured, and who is a defensive liability. It would have been exciting, but not sure it would be the right move to make the Jets better.

I didn't want him back. He's a player that seems to let outside noise get to him a lot. He's been pretty disappointing in general since he went to cbj and the fact that there's the same locker room issue there makes me think he was a bigger part of the problem in winnipeg than just wheeler and scheifele being bullys. Can he get it together? Sure. Do I wanna watch what will likely be the same player he's been the last five years? No not really

There was no way he was coming back with that salary. MAYBE if CBJ retained at least half , but why would they when a team like the Habs were willing to take the full hit on. Sure , it would have been great to see him in a Jets uni but it was nothing but a pipedream. There's no way the Jets jettison a couple of top end players to roll the dice on a player that may never return to his peak playing days, is a defensive liability and is coming out of player assistance.

Tho I do like Lambert and Chibricov and a year older Perfetti Let's hope the coaches know what there doing especially with the line matching?

At 8.7 million a year Laine should feel the great expectations that come with that and irregardless of who he's playing with and who is coaching him he has to play to that elite level salary. He is not a leader, he is not a game breaker, he does not dictate the play, he is not defensively minded. And yet he feels he deserves more ice time, whines he doesn't have a playmaking centre to feed him the puck, and pouts when he's criticized. There is a distinct lack of maturity and character with this man-child. Thankfully he won't be returning here.

There was an interesting 'insider' article on the Blue jackets the other day. Apparently the old core players (Weiger, Jones, etc) in and around 2021 told managemnet they need to get rid of Laine and Elvis the goalie as they were bad for the room - and insted the mgmt traded off the core.
