There were a few interesting tidbits from Chevy today. Lots of his usual dribble as well but a few gems none the less . The most striking was that the only reason they could get from Rutgerscamp was. " It didn't feel right " That's it. That's his reason. Chevy asked his agent if there was more to it, maybe friction with other prospects, Jets coaches, prospect development or any other issue. And apparently his agent didn't know. All the Jets got from Rutgers inner circle was " It didn't feel right " It sounds to me like the kids success went to his head and to his family's head. I'm excited to see what Yager brings. Too bad for Rutgers, the Diva will learn things the hard way now.

That's a pretty good trade considering the situation. I thought Chevy would trade for a PLAY NOW player. But Yager was Pittsburghs top prospect so I understand. And not insignificantly he's born in Saskatoon, playing for Moosejaw. McPouty "it didn't feel right" translation..I don't want to play in Winnipeg. Yager is a Prairie boy. Winnipeg won't be a shock to him. Yeah, he's only 6 ft and 170 to 180 lbs, but I am sure he will be seeing a Jets nutritionalist. Combine that with some heavy lifting, he will gain a few solid pounds. In a few years we will see who won in the trade. McRoarme or Yager? Winnipeg or Pittsburg?

We are creeping towards the start of a new hockey season and I for one am excited about it, even the feeling/knowledge that Winnipeg is unlikely to make a deep playoff run doesn't really hamper the anticipation all that much. Admittedly, part of that eagerness is related to watching the Manitoba Moose players develop, but I also want to see how the players adjust to Scott Arniel as the top dog and whether young players like Perfetti & Heinola are put into positions to thrive. Fetti needs to remain in the top six and Heinola should be given the reins to quarterback the 2nd powerplay unit. As of today, we are 21 days from the Jets kicking off the Young Stars Classic in BC. That will occur on Friday, Sept 13th, which means that I will likely get my first look at Yager in a Jets' uniform that day. Nice little bonus birthday present for me After that, it's only 8 more days until Winnipeg's opening pre-season game, although it is still a total of 47 days from now until the team opens up the regular season against Edmonton. Still waiting for Perfetti's new deal and I am just guessing, but since it has gone on this long it leads me to believe they are working on a lengthier contract and not a bridge deal which would have likely been easier to negotiate.

Mcgorty looks like Jayce Haweryluk plays like Jayce Haweryluk and could be swayed from the European Hockey Leaque to play back in his home province for Less money less drama!

The problem with his very lame explanation - "It did not feel right" - is as that every hockey kid dreams of playing in the NHL so the first time you out ANY NHL jersey on the LAST thing one would think is "it does not feel right".
Hope Pitt sends him to the minors this season

Story out today on the Hockey Writers site that during FA the Jets offered the Oilers Henrique a 2 year $3.5M deal but he decided to resign with the Oilers for less ($3M).

Story out today on the Hockey Writers site that during FA the Jets offered the Oilers Henrique a 2 year $3.5M deal but he decided to resign with the Oilers for less ($3M). Taxes? Taxes not much different in Manitoba in comparison to Alberta, there might be a minimal advantage of living in Alberta, however, the cost of living in Alberta as opposed to living in Manitoba is much higher in Alberta as opposed to living in Manitoba. My thought is that he chose Edmonton over Winnipeg due to his thoughts of the chances of which of the 2 teams has the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup in the near future, in his mind, itβs Edmonton, thatβs his choice and thinking, all the power to him, that all shall be determined as the future goes forward within the 2 seasons from now he is with the Oilers, keep in mind, things can change in a heartbeat, you never know what could transpire within a teamβs fortunes . Leon D signs a HUGE deal with the Oilers, and there are no blackouts for 8 years so they are joined at the hip.
$14M per year which means McDavid will likely be $16M

It will be very hard to fill out their bottom 6, defense, and depth with quality players after $30 million tied up in just 2 players. Add another estimated $30 million to fill out their top 6 and there's 20 to maybe 25 million left for goalies, defencemen, and the bottom 6 plus a couple depth pieces in the press box. Doable but how much will it hurt their chances at a cup?

The goal as always, for fans and players, is to win the cup. You can have superstars but the supporting cast is what gets you to the cup. Can the Oilers build a good enough supporting cast with the money that's left? We will see I guess. 3% of the roster using up 35% of your cap space!
