Unfortunately, the only way the Jets are getting a first pairing RHD is through the draft. We might be able to get a 2nd pairing guy like DeMelo but a bit bigger via trade who may be able to add some toughness to the top pair. True and agreed upon. Cheers, 2b9πππ

Since we have lost both Monahan and Toffoli, Ehlers is in transit, Perfetti is rumoured to be moved, Schmidt was bought out and McGroarty doesn't want to be here, I thought a thread to review off-season stuff of the Jets and the league in general would be good topic4 I think Chevy is going to age appreciably in the next few months. There are no rumors or talk about Perfetti being moved.Β Ehlers is questionable . There is talk of him staying.Β There is talk about him being moved.Β All true. Cheers, 2b9πππ

From Illegal Curve, see below:
Former Winnipeg Jets defenceman Nate Schmidt signs with Florida Panthers.
After being bought out the Minnesotan is heading to the defending champs.
After being bought out by the Jets on Sunday and then clearing waivers on Monday former Winnipeg defenceman Nate Schmidt has a new hockey home.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff is reporting that itβs a one-year deal worth 800K AAV.
Reunited with his former Coach/PoMo.

These moves are abysmal.......
Tell me how we stayed at least the same strength or got better?
We are hamstrung at goaltender now and will never be able to retain a decent one two punch, Comrie over Broissoit......come on?!?!?
This whole thing needs to be blown up, we are trying to protect a couple "pieces" that on their own won't get this thing done.
Good grief......

He wants a shot at being a #1. Comrie will in all likelihood be with the Moose and Kaapo Kahkonen will backup Helly. The move that I didn't like was losing Dillon. They'll miss his physicality and he wanted to sign here.

There was an interesting discussion on the K+Rs UFA show with Kevin Woodley. There's some real good info about Helly's playoff performance, Comrie's stint with Buffalo, Kahkonen and goaltending in general. It starts around the 44 minute mark for anyone who's interested.

Yes and that article appeared in the Sun today basically indicating the mixed messages that are being sent out by Chevy about whether the team is going forward with youth or not. McGroarty made the right decision in staying away from this hodgepodge. It's ridiculous to suggest just because the signings of Scheif and Helle that every year your going for the big one. If the man stated the team will be rebuilding and going with youth the fan base would understand and be enthusiastic and that at least we would move up in the draft. It's time to blow it up and rebuild and give the notion of draft and develop more than a superficial acknowledgement.

The big unknown right now is how Arniel plans to use youth. Bones was a 'vet guy' but Arniel has indicated (not shown yet) that you need to play younger guys for various reasons. It could be that even Chevy wanted more young guys playing last year but he deferred to Bones (I related story a few months ago I heard from someone who golfs with GM waletrs of the Bombers and he said Coach O'Shea plays more vets then he would like but he defers to him).
I dont see a need to blow things up but we could trade Ehlers and Rutger now and maybe Conner next year and totally re-tool.
If we got back to draft and develop we would need to NOT trade away drfat picks for dreams of finding that one piece for a Cup run.

I can understand why they took a shot last year as they did have a very good season. It's just baffling as to why they fell apart so fast in the first round. I do agree with a retool trade the guys that aren't playoff producers for those that are. Big RHD would sure help the cause as well.

Yep, they went for it, every team with hopes of winning the Stanley Cup would do so as we have seen, unfortunately it didnβt work out for us doing as such. First round wipeout was totally baffling and depressing/frustrating/seems to happen a lot with this team, Jets playoff wise havenβt done much of anything since we got to the WCF many moons ago. We shall what happens before training camp starts when it comes to the Jets making further moves/changes. Hopefully with Arniel, the Jets/Arniel put more emphasis on injecting youth into the lineup, and hopefully it works and helps, yes there will be growing pains/every team goes through growing pains, jets have nothing to lose by injecting youth into the lineup, itβll get better as time goes by, especially since you have everything to gain by building for the future. I agree on your point of needing a big RHD. Cheers, 2b9πππ

With youth you get growing pains, but with the likes of Pionk and Stanley you just get pain.

Hope springs eternal. And in September, every NHL club is going to win the Cup for themselves and their fans. But there is no hope that this version of the club is going to be playing in late April. Something big, player wise will need to happen, to keep the club competitive in the central, let alone the rest of the league
