From Illegal Curve, see below: Former Winnipeg Jets defenceman Nate Schmidt signs with Florida Panthers. After being bought out the Minnesotan is heading to the defending champs. After being bought out by the Jets on Sunday and then clearing waivers on Monday former Winnipeg defenceman Nate Schmidt has a new hockey home. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff is reporting that itβs a one-year deal worth 800K AAV. Reunited with his former Coach/PoMo. Cheers, 2b9πππ Apparently the management of the Panthers still cannot assess talent and keep picking up Jet discards. Gotta feel for them.

I can understand why they took a shot last year as they did have a very good season. It's just baffling as to why they fell apart so fast in the first round. I do agree with a retool trade the guys that aren't playoff producers for those that are. Big RHD would sure help the cause as well. Yep, they went for it, every team with hopes of winning the Stanley Cup would do so as we have seen, unfortunately it didnβt work out for us doing as such. First round wipeout was totally baffling and depressing/frustrating/seems to happen a lot with this team, Jets playoff wise havenβt done much of anything since we got to the WCF many moons ago. We shall what happens before training camp starts when it comes to the Jets making further moves/changes. Hopefully with Arniel, the Jets/Arniel put more emphasis on injecting youth into the lineup, and hopefully it works and helps, yes there will be growing pains/every team goes through growing pains, jets have nothing to lose by injecting youth into the lineup, itβll get better as time goes by, especially since you have everything to gain by building for the future. I agree on your point of needing a big RHD. Cheers, 2b9πππ We still do not know who is pulling the strings in the Jet lineups. If Chevy is dictating who is to be playing and when, we will get the same results we have had for the past decade.

Big thing about Haydn Fleury signing is his size for the D at 6'4" over 200 lbs.

Hope springs eternal. And in September, every NHL club is going to win the Cup for themselves and their fans. But there is no hope that this version of the club is going to be playing in late April. Something big, player wise will need to happen, to keep the club competitive in the central, let alone the rest of the league I wouldn't be surprised if we Chevy more or less stays the course and we get more of these depth and 2-way signings to stock the 4th line and Moose and graduate a couple of the young guys to add some much needed youthful energy. As I sit here typing today I don't even mind if the Jets miss the playoffs as long as they admit they're in a transitional phase and not trying to sell me that they're still in win NOW mode with the moves that are being made.
Yet I'm not sure why I have a feeling something BIG (at least by Jets standards) is going to spring soon...for better or worse.

Yep, Chevy will do what he does, canβt predict it, no one can. Youth needs to be injected into the lineup, thatβs a no brainer. I have no problem at all as a fan with a transition, it would be exciting to see our youth injected into the lineup, see their growth, potential and progression with the future in mind. And yes, something big as you say could be still coming, whether good or bad, we shall see. Cheers, 2b9πππ

We shall see NHL wise, more thinking depth NHL wise, definitely quick enough for the AHL. However, he could be a diamond in the rough/NHL wise, ya just never know, sometimes dudes take forever to mature and take off, we shall see, most likely he is a call up for the Jets/NHL wise, injuries. He was the 7th overall NHL draft pick for a reason/his draft year. Cheers, 2b9πππ

I think the Jets' definition of "win now" is different than yours...which I assume is about winning the Cup. I believe Winnipeg's "win now" is just their way of saying they are trying to make the playoffs. And if I am right in how next season may play out, then they technically are still in their "win now" mode because there are a lot of bad teams in the Western Conference. In the Pacific, San Jose and Anaheim will definitely be below the Jets and it seems like Calgary is heading in that direction too. In the Central, Chicago will be better than last season but not really playoff challengers yet and I think you could put Utah in that same category. Then there are fairly unchanged teams like St. Louis & Minnesota, as well as an somewhat-altered Seattle franchise that Winnipeg would have to overcome to qualify for the post-season...definitely not an impossible task. With Nashville improving their lineup so much ( at least in the short term), I can see the Jets possibly finishing behind them, the Avs, & the Stars in the Central so the playoffs aren't a lock by any means and a wildcard spot is looking likely. But should be doable if the team gets improvements on special teams.

All great points on your partπ. When it comes to the Pacific though, youβve got Edmonton and Vancouver, they both loaded up, then we have Vegas whom always by the time playoffs come load up. Pacific Division Teams will be the toughest to get through for the Jets if the Jets want to advance further to the WCF, if the Jets make it to the WCF, Jets at some point will obviously face a Pacific Team, Jets could face based on getting the last wildcard card playoff spot facing a Pacific Team, if Iβm not mistaken, correct myself if Iβm wrong. Just my opinion and thoughts. Cheers, 2b9πππ

But then why give away draft picks for Monahan and Toffoli when you've already made the playoffs and mission has already been accomplished?
