Oh boy this one hurts. The Athletic article by Dom Luszczyszyn (say that properly 5x) By his own metric, he rates the NHL teams improvements through free agent signings. Here goes... 1) Chicago 4) Utah HC 6) Nashville 13) Minnesota 14) St Louis 32) and DFL, Winnipeg
It seems that way from my vantage as well. A big yawn, so far, in the Jets off season. And we are falling behind in the Central biggly.

Here goes... 1) Chicago 4) Utah HC 6) Nashville 13) Minnesota 14) St Louis 32) and DFL, Winnipeg It seems that way from my vantage as well. A big yawn, so far, in the Jets off season. And we are falling behind in the Central biggly. The bad news is that this has probably been one Winnipeg's best free agencies in the past 4 years, especially if you include Hellebuyck & Scheifele to 2024 since their new contracts will start this year ( even though they officially signed in 2023, which is where I put them on the list below). Here is a list of UFA's signed the past 4 off-seasons ( though, think Appleton might have been an RFA). Might be missing something as PuckPedia's transactions aren't sortable by year or type ( trade, waivers, call ups, injuries, etc), so I was forced to use ESPN. I miss CapFriendly already and today is just the 1st day its gone...PuckPedia has a lot of additions to make if they want to come close to what CF provided. 2024: (7 players) DeMelo, Miller, Kahkonen, Anderson-Dolan, Comrie, Fleury, & Shaw 2023: (7 players) Hellebuyck, Scheifele, Brossoit, Namestnikov, Delia, Viel, & Sautner 2022: (3 players) Appleton, Limoges, & Sautner 2021: (2 players) Evgeny Svechnikov & Riley Nash The way it is listed above, obviously 2023 brought the biggest haul, though all 4 players had played here prior to signing that contract ( Bross was the only one not coming off a Jets' contract). This season, DeMelo & Miller could be added to Bucky & Scheif's new contracts coming into effect to make this season have the 3 highest impact players signed as UFAs during this span, plus a depth NHL defender. That easily would be the most impactful, but even if you don't do that...DeMelo is the 3rd most important UFA signing in the past 4 seasons so it has to be considered in 2nd at minimum. The biggest UFA signing that hasn't played in the Peg before in the past 4 off-seasons....Svechnikov? Kahkonen?

Interesting...listening to CJOB on Illegal Curve because they were going to talk to Colin Miller and some McGroarty info popped up too. According to McIntyre of the Sun, the Jets are not the only NHL team frustrated by McG's demands for an NHL spot and a certain amount of playing time. He reported that the Jets were pretty close to a trade last week, but after the acquiring team spoke to McG's camp they were unwilling to meet his demands. Not exactly great news if the rest of the league starts thinking he is a problem child for Chevy's ability to get good value in a trade, but I think being patient will be the best path forward. Let him play in the NCAA this season and see how he sees thing after. Some other interesting things mentioned in the discussion included Connor Bedard's parents telling the Hawks' coach that they weren't planning on getting their son a place to stay in Chicago until they were sure he would make the team. Supposedly Richardson told them to go ahead. But shows the humility a generational talent like Bedard was surrounded by when compared to McG's perspective (a 2nd to 1st liner potential). Also on the Hawks, recently read an article saying that young prospects were no longer guaranteed NHL ice time going forward...not sure if that includes McG's buddy Nazar or not but I am struggling to see how his camp sees this scenario as a positive for him. illegalcurve.com/jets-at-noon-conversation-with-recently-extended-winnipeg-jets-defenceman-colin-miller/Haven't got to the Miller part, but you can listen yourself on the link above. The McG talk is right off the bat, but Miller interview starts at 18:45. Yep, was listening to OB this afternoon/Jets hour, them speaking of the situation/McG, listened to the whole show, he/McG seems to be getting bad advice, seems to myself that McG needs to come forward himself and clear the air as to what is true and not true, McG needs to stop being silent and finally come forward to confirm the supposed truth or say itโs all false, or, say his demands are true, step up to the plate McG. Just my thoughts and opinion as to what McG needs to do. Cheers, 2b9๐๐๐

It is interesting given he has become friends with Barlow who clearly understands the difference between Junior/ college and Pro hockey after his short stint with the Moose.
Time for Rutger to take a step back and reassess. Arrogance is not the same as confidence as they say.

Recent trade acquisition RFA Dylan Coghlan has re-signed (1 yr @ $775k) on a 2-way deal.
That leaves Perfetti, Heinola, & Lundmark as the only RFAs left unsigned.

Murat is reporting the same. There were teams interested in a trade but after talking to McG:s camp they backed out. Minnesota backed out of a deal due to the way the draft fell

This may be the worst of all possible scenarios. Not only does this turkey (talented turkey but still a turkey) refuse to play here, he has diminsihed his trade value dramatically. We can only hope his salary, when finally signs somewhere, will reflect his stupidity. He probably has cost himself millions. It is sort of OK to not want to play with certain teams, but he should have gone through the motions and kept his yap shut.

The Jets have him for 2 years for sure so I'm hoping he absolutely dominates college hockey this year. That way it will entice some hungry GM to make a deal. I'm really curious if what we saw last year , his joy at being drafted, prospect camp.... was all BS . Or did success go to his head that quickly. Having other GMs backoff on trades certainly shows this had little to do with his excuse of not liking the way the Jets handle their prospects.

I guess that he believes that he is the next coming of Wayne Gretzky. Cheers, 2b9๐๐๐

I find it intriguingly interesting that McG himself has been totally silent throughout this whole disaster, not a word from himself/McG, only words from apparently people close to his Camp, and at the same time, no word from his AGENT. At the very least, McG/himself should come forward PUBLICLY and address the situation, answering questions as to whatโs going on: Is this all true/your demands? Where are you getting your advice from? What are your thoughts right now knowing how this situation has gone? Whatโs the REAL Truth, why did this happen? Cheers, 2b9๐๐๐

Cheers, 2b9๐๐๐ Well the story that appeared today was that the Jets tried to trade him twice and it was during the draft. One was close but fell through. So this matter is serious enough and still a lot of time to happen. He doesn't like what he sees with the Jets and it's his right to look after his interests. If the Jets want to draft from players who plan to enter into the NCAA then they should calculate the risk that this can happen. I'm assuming they do so no use crying over spilt milk.

If the Jets want to draft from players who plan to enter into the NCAA then they should calculate the risk that this can happen. I'm assuming they do so no use crying over spilt milk. He still needs to come forward, heโs been silent. Why so? Come forward McG, get it over and done with, get some balls and confront the situation and provide some answers/clarification/clarity. Come forward McG, stop hiding, be a Man. Not one player should be able to hold a team hostage, this is ridiculous, come forward and be a Man on your reasonings, put it forth-ward and letโs get this over and done with as opposed to letting it drag on. There is no crying here on split milk, itโs a matter of principles. Yeah, McG is intitled to his own best interests, however, McG is not the next All World McDavid nor Crosby including Gretzky, itโs time for him to realize that. Heโs if true is feeling that he has the right to being entitled on his own part/entitlement, heโs not being responsible/reasonable including realistic. Just my thoughts and opinion. Cheers, 2b9๐๐๐
