Just wondering if anyone took time to send a quick email to True North on this matter? Keep in mind the seating map I included with obstructed view seats ARE ONLY SEATS WHERE THE GOAL IS OBSTRUCTED. Many others seats have significant chunks of the ice obstructed by the heightened guard rails. Having the wire mesh replaced with plexiglass will enhance everyones experience! If you are in the upperbowl, and want full transperency of all areas of the ice, I ask you to join me in sending True North an email. PLEASE BE VERY CORDIAL IN YOUR APPROACH. You attract more bees with honey than vinegar Once again, here are the people that have the power to help us: Linzy Jones, Jim Ludlow, Robert Thorsten, John Olfert, Jeff Mager, Bill Hibbard, Mike Labay and / or your ticket rep know! Their email addresses are: ljones@truenorth.mb.ca jludlow@truenorth.mb.ca rthorsten@truenorth.mb.ca jolfert@truenorth.mb.ca jmager@truenorth.mb.ca bhibbard@truenorth.mb.ca mlabay@truenorth.mb.ca

Here is a quick example of a picture I found on the old Jetsowner site. This seat is in Section 318, and DOES NOT HAVE A GOAL OBSTRUCTION. However, if you look at the far side ice, you lose about 30% of the defensive zone due to the wire mesh. Again, plexiglass would solve this problem Attachments:

Funny thing about all of this is that when we went to pick our P5 tickets.....I was told we have two choices 318 Row 1 seats 1-4 or 319 row 3 seats in the middle of the section.
Well we said...."take us to Row 1 as this might be quick". And our Rep said.....you will probably end up picking the Row 3 seats as Row 1 was considered "obstructed view".
Since the Row 1 seats were in a handicap section the railings were actually about 1 foot farther out which put the top rail running down the middle of the ice for us. Additionally, since we were the first 4 seats we also had to look through the all the mesh that was used in the entrance. We asked all the questions about plexi glass but there were no plans. So we ended up taking row 3.

Due to obstructions, they replaced wire mesh with plexiglass, and it DID make a big difference. The 200 level for Moose games only cost $15-$25 per ticket, and they saw it as a wise investment ... now, they are charging $65 per ticket in P5, so you think they would the business case to replace the wire mesh would be even stronger ... I also have row 3 seats, and the wire mesh from the lower rails still blocks about 15% of the near ice ... so it would be beneficial for all if this was changed to plexiglass

Yes, seamless glass is often used in office towers overlooking atriums. I myself have seamless glass rails at home ... this WOULD BE THE IDEAL SOLUTION! I keep saying it over, and over again. If plexiglass can be used to protect front row seats from 250lbs men bodycheck each other, and 100mph pucks flying at your head, then surely it can be used to prevent falls from the upperbowl. I don't think there's any issue with Plexiglas not being sturdy enough for the task. My only concern is the height in front of the wheelchair sections. In other words, it needs to be about a foot higher for safety sake. 36" is code, 42" in walkways.

Sorry...I am in 320 then......and the seating was 319 row 1. For the Jets they are not using this as handicap seating. However, it will still be used for concerts as a handicap section but they would be putting in seats for Jets games.

There is not enough handicap seating as there is and they should not be taking any away.

Yeah, I've heard that since they lost 9 seats per TV camera that they've had to install that they made up the difference by removing some of the handicap seating...

I received this reply from Robert Thorsten:
Robert Thorsten <RThorsten@truenorth.mb.ca>
HI (name removed by dkehler). We received your letter along with arena maps and photos regarding the wire meshing in the 300 level. As discussed previously, we had made note of this issue independently and will assess it over time and determine any remedial measures based on our assessment. I will forward a copy of your work to our operations department for review as well. Also, as mentioned when we last spoke, I am not certain this will be on the job list (which is extremely long and challenging to complete in advance of opening with other events in the building as well) this year or even when it will be dealt with, but we have noted this as a potential issue as well as your concern.

It clears up any speculation and also notes that something may in fact be done.. but no guarantee yet. It's fair because their list of things to do is probably inconceivable and if drunk idiots like me would stop invading the MTS Centre to rock out with Alice in Chains.. they'd probably get more done!

Yes, at least there is something on record now stating they are looking into it. Probably won't have anything done this year but they understand the issues and that people are concerned.
I do have one stratagy that will help for some of you with sight concerns though. STAND UP! (handicapped areas excluded and not meant to be rude) Lets face it, we will be rocking the MTS center for most of the season so hopefully the team will give us enough reason to never have to sit down.
Yes I realize I am being unrealistic here (no one will stand for 60 minutes for 41 games), just having some fun with it.
