Schenn signs for 4 at $5.25. Another contract that doesn't support Trouba and his agent.

I'm sure his agent was waiting for some juicy signings in these last signings up in the 6 category and it's not happening. Not even close. The closest he'll come is Dougie Hamilton 6 at 5.75. First of all Hamilton is bigger 6'6" at 210. Secondly his points have gone, the last three years from 25 to 42 to 43 pts. Trouba has gone from 29 to 22 to 21. Both were drafted 9th overall. Trouba might argue he's not been given a chance in 5-6 position but them the breaks. His comparatives are close to Seth Jones (25, 27, 11, 20 pts.) if not better though. I'd say 5 at 5.5. Jones is 6 at 5.4.

DeKeyser just got 30 over 6 so 5 million per year today too. Now I think Trouba is better than him, younger and bigger upside, but it's another comparable that Chevy can use. The market for Trouba is between 5 and 6 million. He's not getting more than that.

Wouldn't Trouba pay more in taxes so he'd want more to compensate?

Wouldn't Trouba pay more in taxes so he'd want more to compensate? Manitoba falls in the middle of the pack in terms of taxes. Many people forget that players are taxed in the city they play so local tax only affects half their games anyway. The difference is really not significant. I once heard an interview with a prominent NHL agent and he said it's extremely rare for players to take taxes into account into where they sign.
