Via twitter: ChrisDca Winnipeg police have arrested two men, aged 37 and 50, for scalping NHL tickets. Undercover officers posed as buyers.

I wonder if the ole selling a worthless item with the tickets loophole actually protects scalpers.

I wonder if the ole selling a worthless item with the tickets loophole actually protects scalpers. I've heard, according to MB law... that selling a ticket in any sale for more than the face value of the ticket is scalping. Could be wrong.

www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Two-charged-for-scalping-Jets-tickets-131336739.htmlTwo men are facing scalping charges after they allegedly sold Jets tickets to undercover Winnipeg police officers. Const. Jason Michalyshen said the two men were arrested earlier this week -- Thursday and Tuesday -- in separate investigations. Michalyshen said at least one of the alleged scalpers is a Jets season ticket holder. The tickets being scalped had a resale value of between $80 and $145, Michalyshen said, adding they were sold to the undercover officers for between $850 and $1,500. Michalyshen said the two men were issued a provincial offence notice for a violation of Section 60 of the Amusement Act -- scalping -- and then released. The tickets were seized and turned over to True North Entertainment, which owns the Jets. Michalyshen said people who buy scalped tickets at inflated prices are being victimized, even though he acknowledged they do so willingly. "Unless things change, we'll enforce those laws," Michalyshen said. Aldo.santin@freepress.mb.ca

Nice, lay the smack down officers!! Agreed. Anyone selling to complete strangers (i.e. undercover cops) is obviously just doing it for a profit, which screws other fans. I like hearing this story.

Ive heard it may not actually work but it would be a long long legal process and probably not even worth going after unless it happens enough. I've seen people on kijiji offering a jets hat for $850 and a home opener ticket as a bonus. If you say you were wanting the hat and you were totally cool with paying about 500% more than its worth then maybe that holds up. One of those loopholes, I'm sure the law could be rewrittento tie it up.

Here's an example
WINNIPEG JETS HOCKEY PUCK FOR SALE $1500 INCLUDED FOR FREE!! 0$ 2 TICKETS IN P5 SEC 319 - ATTACK ZONE (JETS SHOOT TWICE) OCT 9TH VS MONTREAL THIS IS THE THE BIGGEST GAME IN THE HISTORY OF THE FRANCHISE...PERIOD...THESE TICKETS ARE PRICELESS $0 IVE SEEN THREE GAMES ALREADY AND THESE SEATS ARE UN-REAL $1500 FOR 1 PUCK AND (2) FREE TICKETS IN HAND! TICKETS ARE FRESH AND STILL IN THE ORIGINAL SEASON TICKET BOOKLET WILL YOU BE THERE OPENING NIGHT?!? Manitoba's Provincial Amusements Act restricts the sale of entertainment tickets over face value. Therefore these tickets will be gifted for free to the individual(s) who suscessfully purchases the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Puck.
I know its a slipperly slope but it would be nice if they could find a way to legally include that please do not email me asking to purchase the tickets, as they are not for sale

Never understood this argument. Stupid scalpers stop fans from going to games!!!!!!! That's not true in the least. If a scalper sells his tickets for 2,3 or 10 tiems face value the person who bought the ticket is still a fan and still attending the game. All scalpers do is increase the price a fan has to pay to attend the game. So fans with less means liek myself cannot afford to attend but I also can't afford a porche. Tough luck for me. If someone can afford to pay $1000 to attend good for him. The arena will be full on Sunday. Full of Jets fans who paid from $45 to $1500 to attend the game. Scalpers didn't screw anybody out of a ticket. Supply and demand did.

Scalping is not the worst thing in the world, and almost helps most of the time, since it makes a road trip possible. But there is something not right about 1 more kid (or adult) crying at home that they missed out on tickets, because some scumbag is trying to make a buck.

Scalpers didn't screw anybody out of a ticket. Supply and demand did. Absolutely. It takes a willing seller AND willing buyer. We live in a free enterprise society. If you bought a Gretzky rookie for $300 off some guy who was just happy to get the cash and re sold it for $1500, would that be illegal? Everyone says tickets are so different but I don't see it. My brothers are very likely gonna have to purchase tickets through a third party to see Teemu...they're just glad they have at option at this point. And if they get burnt, then that's a risk they were willing to take.

And if they get burnt, then that's a risk they were willing to take. The problem is, the buyer and seller aren't the only ones affected by this. I agree, there is no harm done to the buyer/seller. But, for every ridiculously high-priced scalped ticket, there is one more average joe (or to tug at the heart strings, one more crying little kid) who now can't afford to go to a game, but otherwise would have.
