I do admire Mason but it is a business and the Franchise is being built with the long term in mind. Gus is the way to go. I can see him realizing he's not going to be a number one anywhere else but Europe. So maybe with a 30 game season he'd relax and accept his fate and be happy with this organization and living in our great city. Calling him the Monster makes us all Leaf Fans, UGH! Let's call him Gus or the Swede, or ... anything but Monster... he got the nickname "The Monster" in Sweden, not Toronto, I think...

5 Year Plan: No way Mason is playing for the Jets or the NHL or the ECHL for that matter in 5 Years. There is something to be said for Loyalty but there is even more to be said for practicality. I realy do think Pasquale has a lot of potential. You have your #1 goaltender with Pavs. A young goalie that had a lot of poetential and may still live up to some of it with "The Monster", Have Pasquale come up and play a handful of games, is the bonafide #1 in St.Johns getting lots of pucks thrown at him and gaining confidence. Mason..I do like the guy, but he just doest fit into the 5 year plan. I wouldn't say Mason fits into any 5 year plan but I do think he fits in nicely for the next year or maybe even two. The two goalies had a good working relationship last year and I say, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it. Let it ride one more year and see what happens, I think the team as a whole can benefit from his presence. It's not a bad thing to have a "mature" player on the team.

What are the odds of both backup goalies having same number 50? Always thought that was an odd number for a goalie.
I guess they have a 50/50 chance of making it...LOL!!
Good luck to both; I for one am excited that we have something else to talk about other than Todd & the Coyotes saga!

Great possibilities for Gus to have a very cool mask and pads.
He could have a monster/creature/fighter jet thing going.

Pavelec said he was tired at the end of the season and Noel doesn't seem to have a lot of faith in Mason. I think the Gustavsson can take a more than a handful of games away from Pavelec to keep him rested.

Not sure why Noel didn't have faith in Mason he played decently when called upon. Pav's played some back to backs. Personally think no goalie should ever be playing on back to back nights.

Pavs definitely played way too much - and it was clear he wasn't conditioned well enough for it. He would've been slaughtered if we played the first round in the playoffs. The Monster can certainly take a greater load off of Pavs. And if we are in a position this season to make a run for a playoff spot Gus can do just that. A well rested Pavs would only benefit us in a potential first round playoff series.

We could always pull an islanders who had 3 goalies on their active roster for parts of this past season.

Gus would also be the more expensive goalie and that might not be a bad thing. At this point, we need to spend $12 million just to hit the cap floor.
