Blue Jays acquire Jose Reyes in monster 12-player trade with Marlins: Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez involved in deal
The Toronto Blue Jays have solved their dilemmas at shortstop and on the mound in a monster 12-player swap with the Miami Marlins.
The Jays have acquired shortstop Jose Reyes, starting pitcher Josh Johnson, starting pitcher Mark Buerhle, catcher John Buck and utility player Emilio Bonifacio in exchange for shortstop Yunel Escobar, starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez, catcher Jeff Mathis, infielder Adeiny Hechavarria, pitcher Justin Nicolino, outfielder Jake Marisnick and another minor-leaguer.

I'm fricken pumped. Been a baseball (no not fake baseball) player all my life, still play senior ball and the Jays have always been my favorite team. Every April I'm excited to watch the Jays which has usually faded by mid-June. Going into last season, I really thought the Jays had a shot at a Wild Card spot more than any season in a long time. Then disastrous injury after disastrous injury struck and the Jays quickly became lame ducks. This trade has me jumping around the house pumped for April again.

About time, the Blue Jays made a move to compete in the AL east.

Wow!!! What a great trade for the Blue Jays. This will make them legit contenders if everyone stays healthy. New York is an old team, Boston is way down right now. Everything is wide open. You guys will love Mark Buerhle. The guy is an absolute ace and he never gets hurt.

Fantastic trade. 3 former all stars for a good prospect and pocket change. Miami is now officially a total trainwreck and the Jays are looking like a legitimate playoff contender for the first time in a long time.
I still think Rasmus and Lind have to go, get an Upton, a 1B, and everything is set.

SO many people have been saying "The Blue Jays are on the CUSP of being serious contenders!" since the mid 1990's(!) It's ridiculous really. How many "rebuilding" years has this franchise had since their glory years? As many as the Blue Bombers and NY Islanders- if not more.
I'll believe it when there's an MLB playoff game at the Rogers Centre.

This trade also illustrates what is wrong with MLB's CBA.
The Marlin's owner got a new stadium built with a lot of taxpayer money.
He also gets money through revenue sharing.
Now he guts his team and saves even more money.
The Marlins fans get a mediocre team for the forseeable future.

That's after spending money to bring some guys in. I can see changing things up but this is nuts. I feel bad for those fans who are going to have to watch some bad baseball for the time being.

This is the biggest deal since the Alomar trade and actually brings in some formidable talent that has legitimatley puts the team in the conversation for a title. This is more than the usual "This year for sure" hype that comes every spring this is a legit contending team. Slippy, wake up and realize that this could be a World Series team in a year or two, not just a minor league championship team you have a hard on for.
