Biff I'm just not a big fan of the people in TBay nor the city itself. When you say friendly Manitoba, it's true. TBay people are not like that. Living in Winnipeg I always knew my neighbours, not in TBay or if you do meet them they keep to themselves. Anyone I meet who have not grown up here say the same. TBay is an ok town, just not my type of town. I love Winnipeg and I get to travel there for business every month which is great. We had a chance of getting Costco in TBay but city council screwed that up. It's just not my fave place. I'm staying here because I have younger children and being divorced I can't leave them. So that's the only reason I would like to see this happen, so that I can follow our up & comers. I was talking to one of the parents on my sons hockey team, I told him about us possibly getting the team and he agreed, he said he was just talking to a senior person who is going to build & develop the arena and he was told they are dealing with True North recently and that is the plan. So to sum it up, I've now heard this from 4 sources. The first being a very NHL & hockey connected person whom I trust very much, the second being our mayor about a year ago, the third being that news paper article and now from someone who knows the builder developer of the arena. There's still no guarantee because they have to come up with the finances to build the arena but I would say our chances are pretty damn good. Well, if it's any consolation, Thunder Bay would be my second favorite choice for our AHL team to be placed (behind only Saskatoon). I've been to T-Bay a couple of times, and hung out with a friend with Port Arthur.

My ideal place for our farm team would be Fargo. I'd love to be able to head down there for the weekend, let the wife do her shopping, and catch a game to check out our prospects. However, I suspect the support would be lukewarm. I'm sure, like most states, North Dakota follows their college teams.

2011 Thunder Bay: pop 108,400, median family income $78,610 St John's: pop 197.500, median family income $83,020 Why would the Jets move a successful franchise to a city with half the population and a lower family income? At an average attendance of approx 6,200 it's 3% of St John's population, Thunder Bay would need a 6% commitment. (Winnipeg for example has a population / attendance of 2% with a lower family income of $74,020. High population numbers will compensate for disposable income by sheer dollars available in the local economy.)Sorry, basic economics says no, Thunder Bay is not viable. Your population numbers are wrong. Youre not comparing apples to apples. For St. Johns your listing the census metropolitan area while for Thudner Bay you list the municipality population. The CMA of Thunder Bay is 122,000.

I think that would be a great location. And Regine. Or Saskatoon. Even Thunder Bay is a great location. However, THB and Fargo are on the edge population-wise.

Whenever I visit Fargo or Grand Forks the one thing I always notice is the complete and utter lack of anything hockey related in the sports stores. There is plenty of Vikings and Twins stuff for sale but virtually nothing related to the Wild. I question what the appetite for pro hockey would be there. I think the college teams more than satiate their hockey thirst.

The USHL is a US junior hockey league.
Could that team AND an AHL team survive?
Not likely. Stick with the Force...

The one thing positive that I have to say about Thunder Bay, it's a huge hockey town. University hockey is very well supported here. You see lots of people wearing Jets hats, shirts, etc...so I think they would go nuts for the Jets farm team.

Perhaps no Wild but the Sioux are absolutely everywhere....I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure its a state law that when walking in groups of 2 or more at least one must be wearing a NDSU Jersey, and cap. Nothing pro would work in Grand Forks...Sioux are huge. NCAA division 1 lots of championships... Fargo is less...far less. But in Fargo you do see a little more Wild stuff...its more of a football town though.

Thunder Bay ain't happening. I've talked to "some" people. I'll be brave enough to put $$$ on it. Love Thunder Bay, but it's not happening.

I thought the issue with Abbotsford was the wrong parent club and they sold out for Moose games when it was the Canucks affiliate. I'd love to see our affiliate in Saskatoon but I'm happy to have it in a great town like St John's. If we had to relocate our AHL club, Saskatoon would be my first choice. I've never been able to understand why they placed the Calgary Flames affiliate in Lower Mainland BC. I think if we have to move the club to a new town, then i would rather us go to Fargo or Grand Forks instead. the Ralph would be a great home!

And pay American salaries where the team owners are Canadian?!?! I think that scenario is highly unlikely; TN would have to have its ownership hands around any deal involving a relocation and new rink. That's not going to happen w/ Fargo or Grand Forks.

Canadian NHL teams pay their NHL players in US currency.
What currency is paid to AHL players in Canada?

The Sioux no longer exist. The University of North Dakota teams do not have a name Yes I'm aware that they are no longer officially called the Sioux...however to the fans of NDSU they will always be called The North Dakota Fighting Sioux...The NCAA forced NDSU to stop using the Sioux name.
