I dont see this being a problem. Phil spoke the passage of the bible that talks about homosexuality and spoke it word for word as it was said in the bible. its considered freedom of speech, weather people like it or not.

I have multiple thoughts on this. Yes he spoke the passage (I think he got it slightly wrong but its open to different translations anyway). Quoting one passage likely gets him a pass. But if you take the entirety of his remarks, he's quite clearly an ignorant person. I'm both religious AND strongly support the g-a-y community. It really aggravates me when people bible thump in 2013. Smart Christians will tell you the Bible is a guide, not something that is always meant literally. There is simply too much goofiness in the Bible to take literally. Not to mention it was written by Humans a long time ago, subject to human error and perception of life at that time.
I have always found it bizarre that people would worship a God who would banish any of his children to hell. Without getting into a debate about redemption for murderers and rapists, when we start deciding that a good person who is gay is going to hell, that has to be the end of any common sense conversation. It's just too stupid.
In 2013, only a really stunted person thinks people choose to be g-a-y. For this guy to actually tour the country speaking about God and claiming to be a spiritual leader of others and to hold these thoughts is a little disturbing. Not even just him but anyone like that. How can any "leader of men" feel this way. If he also said he knew the Sun revolved around the Earth because God told him so, everyone would laugh at his ignorance and stupidity.
I generally believe this guy is a lot more "stupid" than he is a "hater" and the fact that he would make these comments while being a public figure would seem to support his lack of common sense.
A&E is in a tight spot. I think they were 100% correct in suspending him. I think the family was 100% wrong in how they chose to "support" him. Regardless of what he thinks, he is now being used in a fight by people who DO hate g-a-ys and if he, as a Christian man, believes in loving all his fellow men, then he should feel pretty ashamed that his words would be used to spread hate or to carry on a disgusting hateful lobby. I suspect the family does have an underlying dislike for g-a-ys based on not condemning the hate that people spew. And if thats true, then good riddance to them. And good for A&E.

"Smart" Christians - Christians who look at the Bible as being anything less than the Word of God are a minority in the Christian community indeed. While Scripture employs much symbolic language there is much that is literally true and is believe as such by a large swath of humanity. I have always found it bizarre that people would worship a God who would banish any of his children to hell. Without getting into a debate about redemption for murderers and rapists, when we start deciding that a good person who is happy is going to hell, that has to be the end of any common sense conversation. It's just too stupid. To be fair, God doesn't banish souls to hell. They banish themselves to hell by dint of their refusal to accept the salvation that God offers all of us. And to deny the existence of hell is to deny sin itself. If you conclude that 'it's just too stupid' then you dismiss the teachings of every mainstream religion, the teachings of the Saints, the messages of manifold prophets, seers, visionaries, and mystics, and, of course, the Bible itself. Not to mention the very specific words that Jesus offered while he was with us. Yep, you've informed us of your opinion and beliefs on this subject elsewhere. You are entitled to those beliefs and no one should deride or insult you for them. Nor should anyone want your opinion squelched because they don't agree with it. It's one opinion amongst others, but it shouldn't be oppressed or derided because others don't agree with it. Many others do NOT agree with your teachings on the subject and that's their right as well. Their opinion is just as valid as yours. I generally believe this guy is a lot more "stupid" than he is a "hater" and the fact that he would make these comments while being a public figure would seem to support his lack of common sense. He has an opinion, just like you do, and his opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. Why should he be forced to suppress his beliefs because he's a 'public figure'? I need to put some Google time in and find out what he said but I'll take a wild guess and say that he didn't use the word 'hate' at all. If he did indeed promote hate then it would be right to deride him as someone who promotes hate. If it's just more intolerance towards someone who has a contrary set of beliefs then it's quite wrong to oppress him for his views. m.

And as I said I think he's closer to stupid than hate.
We can go around all day about it but anyone believing a person chooses to be gay in 2013 is akin to believing the world is flat. It's a non-starter for any reasonable discussion.
The problem with the bible as the word of God is it was written by man, subject to interpretation, translation, human error, limits of human understanding at the time, and shaped by the view of man at the time. The fact that man religious scholars disagree about many interpretations of the bible is proof that there can be no one true interpretation.
I read one story that actually discussed the passage in question and how it was mistranslated and didn't mean what the Duck Dynasty guy thinks it does.
There are many things in the bible that are sins that seem ludicrous in 2013. Which is why the bible cannot be taken literally in all cases.
And to be fair I've found a lot of inspiration and strength of the bible and my belief on God. But common sense can't be ignored.

Hasn't most of this stuff already been discussed in that Sochi thread? If memory serves, it didn't go well.

Love the show, I take some of it with a grain of salt but it's fun and entertaining. The show hinges on faith respect and strong family values, kind of like the Walton's in camouflage, something you don't see to much in todays family units. The man spoke from the bible something he believes in and he lives his life around, and nobody is ever going to change his Christian beliefs, nor should they. He did not in my opinion say anything hateful he just lives his life and his beliefs around his scripture, and today that can be considered a hate full thing believing in the bible by some.
I think if Phil does not come back the show is over because it sure looks like that family sticks together and I hope they do!

He believes in hating gays apparently. Watch some of his sermons. I think that closes this case. Good riddance.

Do you have any proof of his "hatred" for gays? Please share.

Actually I will take that back for the sake of accuracy. He didn't say hate. He called gays an "abomination". But honestly I didn't intend to debate the gay thing.
I think it's sad that A&E is getting death threats. They did the right thing.
