The Good news for you is, the US has 10x the population, so if the country ever decides to commit to the sport, it will be yours. But for now, our tiny population continues to enjoy success at many levels. when you look at the big hockey states, the populations are close to canada if not more. NY, NJ, Penn, MA and all of New england, Michigan, Minnesota, The dakotas, alaska, wisconsin. good news is more players are coming out of california and texas. I will say we have been more successful at all levels except for winning olympic gold. i think the outlook is decent, the management is poor, but huge issue i have is development at certain positions (center). canada is dedicated to one sport...so we cant get there but we are still pretty decent. Im nottoo mad about this from the player perspective just management. Of course you'll get there. Who do you think is coaching teams all over the world? Canadians! Which is a good reason as to why the gap continues to close. It's happening small scale right now, but imagine US colleges...if they start raining dollar bills on coaching, where do Canadian and US kids go to play? NCAA! If that happens, the rest of the world will follow. 20 yrs ago, there were 2 black players in the NHL, now the Jets have 2 alone. The sport will continue to evolve and with that, so do the players.

personally i think usa needs a full time coach, a coach K type guy too, not a pro guy.
I think BU's Jack parker would be a nice choice

Nice effort USA against the Finns. What a joke. It's Gold or nothing in Olympic Hockey. It's no excuse, but after losing in the Semi's, I can't imagine even Canada getting up for this game. Bronze is 2nd place for losers.

Bronze is 2nd place for losers. Of course it is tough to get up for the game, however Finland lost to their arch rivals Sweden and still had some pride to play for the bronze. In my opinion the loser medal is the silver. Also in my opinion, USA was poorly coached

Back on topic...Swedes are PO'd that all the officials tomorrow are Canadian citizens. Personally I believe that no official should officiate a game that his nation is in (to avoid a conflict of interest), but that's just me. Peter Forsberg is PO'd. For all of Forsberg’s outrage, the current members of the Swedish team appeared unperturbed. “I don’t care,” said Par Marts, the Swedish coach. “I hope (the officials) do their job. That’s all I can focus on. I can’t change it. No problem with that.” Swedish captain Niklas Kronwall, a defenceman for the Detroit Red Wings, said he doesn’t think the citizenship of the zebras will give Canada an advantage. “(People) make a bigger deal out of it than it has to be,” Kronwall told reporters. “We’re all used to NHL referees at this level. I think it’s the right decision.” www.thestar.com/sports/sochi2014/hockey/2014/02/22/canadian_refs_for_mens_hockey_game_have_swedes_angry_already.html

I mean, Tre Kronor has overcome all these injuries...so officials - even if they're biased - are just a minor problem.

Can't believe the USA didn't score a single goal in last 2 games. And that's with two Kane penalty shots too.

As a Sweden fan, I ain't even scared. As long as we stay out of the box...which has been a problem all tournament especially against Latvia There's no team I loathe more than Team Canada...time to have the ghost of Peter Forsberg lend us a hand! HEJA SVERIGE!! Haha! Maybe next Olympics! Maybe not! What's the excuse now?

That was total domination! We never trailed in a single game! We shut out our opponents in the semi-final and final! I am so happy right now! See you in four years for another whoppin'!

Congratulations to Russia for putting on a fantastic Olympics!
People of Russia be proud. Many had doubts (myself included) but I felt you captured the spirit of the Olympics.
(This isn't an endorsement of some of their policies/laws/human rights issues, just a kudos to the Russian people for pulling off what many thought was going to be a disaster)
