I only caught the discussion about Michael Sam. it was a really good discussion actually. Westwood talked about the influence of American football players on the CFL locker rooms and how the majority of American players have strong Christian beliefs (at least where sport is concerned) and that Sam will have trouble with some players.

I think it probably sucked because of the lack of radio talent involved. I didn't listen, so maybe it didn't suck. Doubt it though.

For the topic I heard, it was very interesting due to the radio talent. Westwood has a perspective none of us have as a pro athlete in a locker room.
I tend to think the influence of religion is one thing but the instinct to stand up for a fellow team mate is something too. No doubt Sam will be the victim of prejudice but I think (or hope) that will be the minority.

I will say this - Edmonds can't start soon enough for my tastes.

I will say this - Edmonds can't start soon enough for my tastes. I agree, I found the show to be entertaining with Jay. For me, I am a sports fan but I liked the humor, and didn't need the super in-depth analysis that other shows would give you. Now I find that I am turning the station off sooner or not even going to it in the mornings as I find Lieble comes across kind of condescending and whiny. Troy is not the same without Jay, those guys together would make me laugh plus there was less Lieble. I hope Edmonds can bring some life back to the show So did we ever find out the true reason that Jay was let go?

I was not a fan of Jay (too "yell-y" and played devils advocate just for the sake of it, even when presented overwhelming evidence to the cotnrary), but the show needs someone in the middle to steer the ship, so to speak. Plus, despite limited listening to Goldeyes broadcasts, I'm a fan of Edmonds. Was very pleasantly surprised at his hockey coverage & commentary on pre-game shows, also. Seems like a real pro.

www.chrisd.ca/2013/11/28/winnipeg-radio-ratings-fall-2013-bbm-canada/#.UuFVhhDnaHs The below data is for the 12+ demographic w/ most recent Fall of 2013 ratings, with the Fall 2012 ratings in parentheses for comparison. 680 CJOB — 12.8 (14.8) CBC Radio One — 10.6 (9.9) QX104 — 9.8 (7.4) 92 CITI FM — 8.0 (8.1) 99.9 BOB FM — 7.3 (7.2) 103.1 Virgin Radio — 7.2 (7.4) FAB 94.3 — 7.0 (6.2) 102.3 Clear FM — 5.7 (5.2) CHWE — 3.8 (5.6) Power 97 — 3.6 (6.8) CBC Radio 2 — 3.0 (3.1) 99.1 Fresh FM — 2.2 (2.6) TSN Radio 1290 — 2.0 (2.4)The Lounge 100.7 — 1.8 (0.9) Espace Musique 89.9 FM — 0.1 (N/A) ....NOTE: TSN Radio 1290 is declining...rapidly. this is not good news as we need an all sports station here. I hope Paul Edmonds can work some magic with the morning show as it is probably the worst show on 1290 except for the phone call segment, which is passable despite the fact the same guys seem to call in every time I listen to it, which is only once or twice a week.

TSN1290 ratings aren't great but likely better than they'd ever be if they went back to being an oldies station. I'm not sure how many people want to listen to all sports all the time...a lot of people (probably the majority) like music or news in the morning or drive home.
I generally listen to 1290 a couple of hours a day...a bit of the big show, a bit of Rick Ralph and an hour or so of H&L... occasionally catch a bit of Illegal Curve on the weekend.
They need to tweak their lineup and programming but overall I like what they have to offer. I'm also hoping Paul Edmonds can make an impact. I actually like Troy Westwood on the show, just not THAT MUCH of him.

An All Sports format is what it is. Most people arent going to listen to 12 straight hours of it because you're really hearing much of the same thing.
But because it's a niche audience, its able to attract specific sponsors with higher rates. If you're a business that wants to advertise to this audience, its a good station to advertise with versus trying to get that same male sports-minded audience by advertising on CBC Radio or 104 or whatever.

I listen to The Big Show 5 days a week. Westwood is a tool.
Carry on.
From the S4 of Grumpz! Phase 1 complete! Now figure out what to do with Buff & find a #1 goalie.

I need my sports updates to wake me up during my 11 minute commute, however there used to be far less of the douche. He's now running the show so I may have to move on. Is that really worth an "rofl"? From the S4 of Grumpz! Phase 1 complete! Now figure out what to do with Buff & find a #1 goalie.
